SYLVIA CUDIAMAT Obituary

On March 3, 2023, Sylvia M. Cudiamat, 56, passed away from the ravages of Multiple Sclerosis.
She is survived by her husband, Derek; and their son, Heath Clayton; father and mother, David and Yvonne Newland; and younger brothers, David and Eric. After starting school in Simi Valley, CA, Sylvia lived most of her life in the Vancouver area, graduating from Prairie High in 1984.
As a young woman she was vibrant, energetic, and enthusiastic in all her endeavors.
Among the activities she enjoyed were running, biking, skiing, swimming, dancing, tennis, hiking, music, sewing, cooking and gardening.
Two pivotal dates in her life were May 1, 1982 when she dedicated her life to her Creator Jehovah God.
And Dec. 24, 1992 when she gave birth to her and Derek's son, Heath.
From this point, Sylvia morphed into a mature loving mother, a side we had not seen, it would the best of Sylvia.
Balancing love, training, discipline and instruction Sylvia helped raise a fine young man, a contributor to society. Heath was at her side along with her husband Derek when she passed away at home in hospice care. Sylvia's faith played a major role in her life. Motivating her to volunteer in her community and share what she was learning. It helped her face the diagnosis of MS with courage. As her illness progressed from needing a cane, a walker, a wheelchair, to finally being mostly confined to bed. Sylvia's attitude and beliefs remained steadfast. When Sylvia passed away it was a terrible loss for her family and she is deeply missed. Having said that, she encouraged us by ""fighting the fine fight...running the race to the finish"" awaiting her reward. (2Tim 4:7,8)
Like what is said of the faithful man Daniel, Sylvia ""....will rest, but you will stand up for your lot at the end of the days."" ( Dan. 12:13)
Our family would like to thank the hundreds that inundated her with messages and phone calls of support, and the countless prayers on her behalf. These brought Sylvia and us much comfort in her last days.
Sylvia's memorial service will be held Saturday, March 18, 2023 1:00 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 3617 R St. Vancouver, WA 98661

Sylvia was a very unique woman. On her surface, her warmth and astounding conversational abilities could draw you in a way that others never would. Her inner life could be much more complex and profound. In knowing her as a friend of long-standing and later a caregiver of several years... to be in her company was a gift. She was giving of her time and advice, very astute about human nature. Yet what wasn´t evident, she didn´t reveal her own innermost workings so easily. To be in her sphere was and still is a journey of discovery. Her world was hers and if you were a recipient of any part, count yourself blessed

Sylvia's memorial service was most touching. Many lovely photos and memories of her life. It was so wonderful to get together with her many friends and meet family members. She was an example of love, kindness and integrity we all should strive to imitate. Much love to you all! Cheri Cronin

I cherish warm memories of happier times spent with Derek and Sylvia, driving around our local area and exploring, and occasionally jumping into a lake to cool off! Sylvia and I enjoyed gardening and plants, and English decor and tea. While she was ill, one of the few things I could do for her was to deliver some of my sweet chickens' eggs - she indicated that she enjoyed those, so that made me feel good. I miss our friendship, and look forward to much better times ahead for us all!
