Beverly Anne Makinster, 96 years of age of
Vancouver, WA, passed away on Sunday, January 25, 2026, while hospitalized with a variety of ailments in
Hillsboro, OR.
Beverly (Bev) Anne Zerbach was born on September 17, 1929 to Cecile and John Zerbach in
Portland, OR. John and Cecile separated when Bev was still an infant and mother and child moved back in with Cecile’s mother, Velma. In 1935 Cecile married Ted Christenson who raised Bev to adulthood. When Bev was in first grade, Ted and Cecile had one child together, Donna Lee, who ended up being Bev’s only sister.
Bev attended Franklin High School where she met her soon to be husband, Ron Hunt. Ronald Dale Hunt and Beverly Anne Zerbach were married on July 15, 1950, and remained married until Ron’s death in 2005. Bev and Ron both had wonderful singing voices and often gathered at the piano with friends Gordon and Sylvia, singing the night away. At this time in her life, she was also a member of a women’s quintet called “The Sophisticats,” singing locally while raising her family. Bev and Ron had four children together: Mark, Barbara, Christopher, and Jeff. Many years later, after the passing of Ron in 2005, Bev and Gordon Makinster reunited and were married on September 22, 2007.
In addition to working as a stay-at-home mom, Bev worked as School Librarian for the Lynch School District. She also helped husband Ron manage his hobby store, “Hunt’s Hobbies” in the mid to late 70’s, then worked for the State of Oregon Employment Division of Research and Statistics before her retirement in 1993.
Bev was an avid reader whose favorite genre was mysteries. She also enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. Bev also attended church weekly up until the time she could no longer drive. She had a delightful soprano voice which she shared by being a part of the church choir in the various churches she attended throughout her life. Her final church affiliation was the Church of the Good Shepherd in
Vancouver, WA.
