RUDOLFO “RUDY” BUGAYONG ESTIGOY
October 30, 1936 ˜ December 27, 2020

Rudolfo “Rudy” Bugayong Estigoy passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020, with family nearby. He was born Oct. 30, 1936 in Tayug, Pangasinan, Philippines to Segundo and Mercedes Bugayong. He was the eldest of five children.
Rudy graduated from Mapua Institute of Technology with a Bachelor’s Science degree in chemical engineering. He met his future wife, Perla Ramirez, who was a pharmacist at Tayug Emergency Hospital where they both worked. They were born in the same town and graduated from the same high school but didn’t meet until after college. They married in 1963.
Rudy had a short career in the army where he did cross officer training at Fort Lee, VA. He later flew back to the United States where he applied to four major companies. On the initial interview, Shell Oil Company asked, “can you start work today?” His family flew to the United States the following year. He completed additional education at the University of Washington. After a 22-year career as a certified professional engineer in quality engineering for Shell Oil, he retired early at the age of 55 in 1991. During his retirement, he was able to spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren, traveling, golfing and bowling.
He was an active member and past president of the Fil-AM Association of Vancouver and vicinity. He enjoyed watching sports and action films and listening to music with his favorite song, Franks Sinatra’s “I did it my way.”
Rudy is survived by his wife of 57 years, Perla; brother, Mercidito; sister, Estella Velasco; daughter, Rhodora Estigoy; daughter, Rhoda Montgomery (Noel); son, Rommel; daughter, Rhonda Cohen (Steve); grandchildren, Jacqueline, Matthew, Noah and Sophie; and many cousins, nephews and nieces.
Rudy will be interned at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver, WA, with live streaming available. Viewing will be Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, from 1 to 4 p.m. Please wear a mask. In lieu of flowers, please consider a charitable donation in Rudy Estigoy’s name to the American Parkinson Disease Association, apdaparkinson.org. A celebration of life memorial reception will be held on his birthday Oct. 30, 2021.
