Romana Smith Obituary

ROMANA MARIE SMITH
April 23, 1937 - April 18, 2010

Romana Marie Smith of Vancouver, WA, passed away on April 18, 2010. She was born in Portland, OR to Frank and Esther (Schelb) Masco, the oldest daughter of nine children.
She was musically talented, playing in the junior symphony before majoring in music at the University of Portland. There she met her first husband, Leon Robertson, and within five years of marriage had four children.
After her husband passed away in 1976, Romana married Timothy Smith, who adored her every day of their 30-year marriage.
Romana continued her love of music, playing viola in the Vancouver Symphony, mandolin in the Portland Mandophonic Orchestra, and piano on her baby grand in her home. She enjoyed traveling, camping, and girl's getaway weekends with family and friends. She was fond of sitting in her back yard on summer nights with her husband, Tim, and getting together for holidays, barbecues and impromptu meals with her family and friends.
Romana faced substantial adversity in her life with courage
and strength. She was warm and loving, proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild, and spoiled the many feline members of her household that always seemed to surround her.
She worked hard all her life, and after retiring a few years ago, eventually started to accept that it was OK to sit back, read a book, and enjoy other leisurely pursuits.
Romana is survived by her loving husband, Tim; daughter Heather; sons, Kris, Randy and Kerry; grandchildren, Meghan, David, Christopher, Nicohle, Devin, Solveig, Kelsey, and Carly; great-grandchildren, Austin and Adeline; brothers, Matt, Bill and Charley; sisters, Rosalie, Marlene and Judy; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and their children.
Preceding her passing were her mother, Esther; father, Frank; brother, Hal; sister, Marie; and first husband, Leon.
Funeral services will be on Mon., April 26, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. at Park Hill Cemetery, 5915 E. Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver, WA. Friends, family and acquaintances are invited to celebrate Romana's life in a memorial service to follow the service from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at 15719 NE 25th Street, Vancouver, WA 98684.

Not sure what to say?

I last remember Ro waving from the train. What a great visit we had. She isn't gone because she will always be in my heart. Mom and Ro are having a blast shopping the Malls of Heaven. Thank you Tim for understanding my absence. We love you,

Tim and family, we are so sorry for the loss of Ro. She was such fun to be with, always with kind words about everyone. The T-shirts, water guns and fun things you both brought to Tollefson family reunion brought joy to all who attended. We will all miss her greatly.

Dear Tim, the Masco Family and all those that so loved Romana,
We were so sorry and saddened to hear the news about Romana. She was always such a joy to be around, with her lovely smile for everyone. Mother's Skip and the river gathering will not be the same.

I have lost a very dear, long-time friend. Ro & I go back 20 years--we were stand partners both at the VSO and at Clark College Symphony Orch. Our joke was I will turn every page and mark every bowing if she would enlarge our music (geriatric size!) . She worked hard to be the best musician she could be and loved the viola (good choice!) and orchestra.
Ro never failed to brighten my day with her gentle spirit and warm personality.
You were so blessed Tim to have such a loving marriage to this incredible woman.
I will miss her so much.

We will miss Romana, how she loved being with her friends and playing a little poker on Mother's skip. She will always be with us.
