Roberta Walker Obituary

ROBERTA JEAN (KOKEEN) WALKER
May 20, 1923 ~ November 9, 2015

Roberta Jean Walker passed away on November 9, 2015. She was 92 years old. Roberta was born on May 20, 1923 in Spokane, Washington. She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane in January of 1941.
She always had a strong desire to help people, and in the midst of WWII she began her very long career as a registered nurse. She received her diploma from the Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing in Spokane in 1944.
She continued her nursing education throughout her life and received numerous certificates and diplomas from several schools around the country. She eventually retired from the Veterans Administration in the early 70's.
That was not the end of her nursing career however. She continued to volunteer as a hospice nurse until her limited mobility prevented her from doing so.
Roberta always thought of others needs before her own and her generous spirit will be missed. She kept her sense of humor and her infectious laughter throughout her life and loved to regale others with her wonderful stories from her childhood and her nursing days.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Winnifred Kokeen; her husband Robert (Ray) Walker; and her brother Donald Kokeen.
Roberta is survived by her two sons, Paul Ottman of Vancouver, WA and Steve Ottman (Mona) of Stanwood, WA; grandsons Thomas Ottman (Pamela) and John Ottman (Carrie); granddaughter Crystal Wyre (David) all of Vancouver, WA.; seven great grandchildren and numerous inlaws.

Roberta will be greatly missed and forever in our hearts.

Grandma Jean was a great woman. I enjoyed very much hearing about her life experiences. She was always willing to help others. We will surely miss her and her stories.

Grandma Jean was a very sweet lady. I remember the numerous pairs of crocheted slippers she would make for us every Christmas, always a giver. She will be missed.
