Richard Granger Obituary

RICHARD "DICK" ALAN GRANGER, JR.

Richard Alan Granger, Jr. passed away on Aug. 26, 2010, in Clarkston, WA. Richard, also known to many as Dick, was born in Vancouver, WA, to Richard and Mary Granger in 1953. He spent his childhood in Joseph, OR and Vancouver, WA, where he graduated from Evergreen High School in 1971.
Dick went on to Oregon State University and became a member of the ATO Fraternity. He graduated in 1975 with a major in political science and minor in forestry. Dick was a proud Beaver and supported OSU athletics as well as the College of Business Entrepreneur Program.
In 1979, Dick moved to Washington D.C. to serve as a legislative staff member for Oregon Senator Mark Hatfield. Two years later he returned to the Northwest to begin working with his father helping to shape the inception and future of Granger Company, a whole log chip mill operation in Umatilla, OR. In 1990, the business was moved to Clarkston, WA. Dick became president of Granger Company in 1995, and served in that office throughout the remainder of his life.
Dick was blessed with a loving marriage to Pamela Heiser Granger. Their life together was one of great contentment; enjoying family, traveling and being together as true friends. Both found a spiritual home as members of the Moscow, ID Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
We will miss Dick's wonderful qualities of leadership, loyalty and dignity. He died as he lived: courageous against cancer, faithful and stoic in adversity, and trusting in the amazing power of God to work all things together for good. He will be in our hearts always.
Dick is survived by his wife, Pamela; mother and father, Mary and Richard Granger; sister and brother-in-law, Janis and Greg Call; brother, David Granger; brother and sister-in-law, John and Lisa Granger; brother and sister-in-law, Mark and Trisha Granger; children by marriage: Jennifer and Darin Douglass and Jeffrey and Kasey Bivens; mother and father-in-law, Nola and Donald Heiser; siblings by marriage: Debra and Greg Murphy and Scott and Sharon Heiser; nieces and nephews; Brian, Allison, Andrew, Jaymie, Jason, Kristen, Jack, Evan, Marin, Danielle, Lily and Zane; and grandchildren, Justus, Kristin, Jeffrey, Saylor and Shaun.
A funeral service will be held at the 13th Street Clarkston Seventh Day Adventist Church on Thursday, September 2nd 2010, at 2:00 p.m. with Dr. Stan Hudson officiating.
Memorial gifts may be made in Dick's honor at Reach International, http://www.reach.org, a children's charity that Dick and Pamela Granger have supported for many years.

Granger Family:
I'm saddened to see that Dick left so soon. Also; to realize that he's been sick. I knew Dick in my youth and he was a stellar person even then. I've always thought highly of the Granger Clan and my family and I wish you God's peace.

You have a wonderful, gentle spirit that will carry with us always. Nothing can take away the love, respect, and admiration I see in Mark's eyes when he speaks of you. Your dedication to your family and unwavering spiritual beliefs are things we should all be so lucky to have in our lives. You will be greatly, greatly missed.
