Mabel Pickett Obituary
Dec. 1, 1910 ~ June 8, 2009
Mabel O. Pickett, 98, of Vancouver, Washington, died June 8, 2009 at Stonebridge Memory Care Community. She was born December 1, 1910 in Camas, Washington to Ceivert and Karen Ostenson.
Mabel spent most of her childhood around LaCamas Lake and Fern Prairie and married Sydney L. Pickett in 1928.
She ran the grocery store they owned for a while in Fern Prairie and their son, Gary, was born in 1943. The family moved to Washougal, Washington where she also worked at the local hamburger stand and a family owned grocery store (Van's).
Mabel was always working in the yard where she grew beautiful roses that she shared with everyone. She spent many happy days fishing, baking, watching sports, reading, and making new friends. She also found the time to take up oil painting and crocheting.
Mabel loved entertaining and had a strong spirit and excitement for life. She was a wonderful grandmother, always telling
family stories and making things fun and memorable.
Mabel is survived by her son, Gary A. Pickett; grandchildren, Wade (Yushan) Pickett, Craig Pickett, Brenda (John) Easdale and Becky (Robert) Solorzano; great-granddaughter, Lauren Easdale; and brother, John Ostenson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Sidney.
A graveside service for Mabel will be held, 12:30 p.m., Saturday, June 13, 2009 at Washougal Memorial Cemetery.

Just happened to see this story and was reminded of how much you affected my life at Lincoln Elementary. It was many years ago, but I have never forgotten you.
I'm saddened for you in your loss, but it appears your mother lived a very long and joyful life.

I have such fond memories of Mabel, Sid and Gary. Mabel was a treasure of a woman. I have often thought of you all. My parents, who knew Sid and Mabel well, have been gone many years. And I lost my husband John over a year ago. It is tragically hard and heart breaking to lose a loved one so close and so dear. My sincerest condolences to Gary and the family.
