Lillian Witt Obituary

LILLIAN MARGARET (BANHOLZER) WITT
Sept. 13, 1926 ~ May 22, 2009

Lillian Margaret (Banholzer) Witt, 82, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2009, after a 5 1/2 year battle with ovarian cancer. She was born on September 13, 1926, and was a lifelong resident of Woodland, Washington.

She devoted her life to caring for her family and will always be remembered for being thoughtful and compassionate. You could always count on her gentle smile, sparkling blue eyes and kind words. She never had an enemy and truly lived by the adage, "Treat others as you would want to be treated." She took great pride in tending her garden, feeding the birds, sewing, knitting, and preparing wholesome homemade meals for her family.

Lillian is survived by her beloved husband of 62 years, Vance Witt, who she married March 22, 1947, at the Woodland Presbyterian Church. Lillian is also survived by her cherished sister, Bertha Lyon of Myrtle Creek, Oregon; and 5 children: Lucy (Gary) Tubbs of Fargher Lake, Eileen (George) Soli of Vancouver, Vince (Vivian) Witt of La Center, Roy (Mary) Witt of Woodland, and Kathy (Will) Wisbeck of Mukilteo. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 4 nieces, 4 nephews, and many lifelong friends.

Lillian's family would like to thank Dr. Rushing and his staff at the Northwest Cancer Specialists for their compassionate and knowledgeable care. Without them, we wouldn't have had her with us the last 5 1/2 years. We would also like to thank Hospice SW and the staff at the Ray Hickey Hospice House for making Lillian's last weeks comfortable and peaceful.

A memorial service will be held at the Woodland Presbyterian Church, 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 30. She will be laid to rest with her parents, Margareth and Casper Banholzer, in the IOOF Cemetery in Woodland. Woodland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in Lillian's memory to the Ray Hickey Hospice House through the SW Medical Center Foundation, P.O. Box 1600, Vancouver, WA 98668.
