George Young Obituary

GEORGE E. YOUNG
December 31, 1927 ~ December 30, 2017

George Young was born in Kansas City, Missouri and passed away peacefully at the Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver, one day short of his 90th birthday.
He was adopted as an infant by George and Katherine Young. At 8 years old, the family moved to Corvallis and then on to Portland. George graduated from Benson High School and attended Reed College.
George is survived by his wife Jane Young, married 59 years. He was preceded in death by his two daughters, Julie Young and Katherine Young. George is also survived by numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
George worked in the banking industry for 40 years. His job transferred the family to various cities in the Northwest.
Upon retirement, George and Jane's travels took them from West coast to East coast with many winters spent in the Phoenix area. One of their favorite cities still remains San Diego.
George's love of classical music was passed along to Jane and they spent many enjoyable date nights at the Oregon Symphony. He kept abreast of all current events, which often resulted in many letters to the editor.
At family gatherings it was not unusual to find George taking pictures which would prompt everyone watching home movies at the next gathering.
George served his country from Feb. 1946 - Feb. 1949 and became an avid supporter for all veterans issues.
George was a one of a kind type of man. Always ready with a joke, advice or an antidote. All who knew him will miss him.
The family would like to thank Legacy Health Salmon Creek, Manor Care Health Services and the Ray Hickey Hospice House for their aid and compassion.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, January 27, 2018, 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Heathman Lodge, Vancouver, WA.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in George Young's name to Ray Hickey Hospice House, the Y.W.C.A. Clark County or the Clark County Humane Society.
