Edwin Nail Obituary

Edwin Ray Nail
Dec. 28, 1967 - May 16, 2025

Ed was born in Seattle but lived his entire life in Vancouver.

Ed graduated from Prairie High School in 1986. After graduating, he worked underground construction. He would always say, “I love working in the dirt!” Even as a child, he loved playing in the dirt with his Tonka toys. The job he was especially proud of was working on the new waterfront in downtown Vancouver.

Ed had an infectious smile and loved telling stories! When he was a youngster (and as an adult!) he’d laugh so hard while trying to tell a story that a person couldn’t help but laugh with him before they knew what it was about.

Ed loved fishing and parachuting. He was also very artistic. Once he designed and created a beautiful piece of stained glass and he loved to draw. A lifelong dream was to write a children’s book about his dog, Sweetheart.

Ed was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Nail, and his sister, Kathleen Nail Rubbelke. He is survived by his mother, Nancy Nail, and brother, Michael Nail, along with numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Ed was a loyal son, brother and friend. Rest in peace, Mr. Ed, you are loved and will be missed.

A memorial service will be held Saturday July 26, 1 p.m. at The Lofts (Cogir of Glenwood Place), 5300 NE 82nd Ave., Vancouver, WA.

To my Eggs Benedict Man (inside joke)
I still can´t believe you are gone but I know you are finally at peace my friend. I will always remember the great times we had together but will always regret that I never made the time to do the skydiving thing with you which I would have done in a heart beat!! You were always such a tough guy on the outside but what I loved most was when I got to see the sweet caring sensitive man you really were on the inside. Thank you for always giving me a safe place to land when I needed it..which was many times!! I will miss you everyday but I am a true believer that we will see each other again one day so for now I will just say I love you, see you when I see you my friend! Healing and lots of prayers to your family and friends. Love P

My dearest Ed,
There are no words I can say right now. You were so near and dear to my heart. I could write for hours expressing how grateful I was to know you. You were there for me at the loss of husband (and your friend) Les Roberts. I could not have made it through the first couple of years without you. I know it may have been hard for folks to understand our relationship, (age) but I would do it all over again. Thank you for encouraging me to fulfill one of my lifelong dreams when you took me skydiving in 2008. I will never forget that and still have our video! Also, the great time you, Albert, Brenda and I had with the Marlboro race cars at Portland raceway- Fantastic! My only sadness was the cancellation of the Aerosmith concert we flying to as VIP guests! darn it, the concert was cancelled to Steven Tylers accident. I could always count on you if something came up and I needed a helping hand. May you be at peace my dear friend. My heart is with you always. Nancy Nail, you were blessed to have such a wonderful and caring son.

I was sorry to hear of Ed's passing. He and his brother Mike, worked for my Dad (Marty Brosseau) years ago on his tree farms. They apparently had a good time cutting trees, piling them into stacks and then blowing up the stumps. There were always stories about "The Nail Brothers." They were hard workers who were highly entertaining. My condolences to his family and friends.
