Charles Nordgaard Obituary

CHARLES “CHARLIE” H. NORDGAARD
February 9, 1954 ˜ October 14, 2020

Charles “Charlie” H. Nordgaard passed away on Oct. 14, 2020, after a two-year battle with stage 4 lung cancer. He was born in Vancouver, WA, to Hamilton and Beatrice Nordgaard.
He graduated from Fort Vancouver H.S. in June 1972, and married Lori (Anderson) in February 1973.
Charlie leaves behind his wife of 47 years, Lori; son, Luke (Lindsay); sister, Judy Barnes and five grandchildren he adored.
He was preceded in death by his daughter (Jenni), parents, three sisters and one brother.
Charlie was gruff on the outside but soft on the inside. To really know him was to love him. Honoring his final wishes, there will not be a celebration of life or service. He wanted to be remembered through family and friends individual memories of him. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Community Home Health Hospice, c/o Community Relations, PO Box 2067, Longview, WA 98632.

My parents ( Earl & aleen Rogers) and my brother Pat, sister Pam & myself LeeAnne ( Annie) lived across the street from the Nordgaards in the heights area of Vancouver. My sister was good friends with Judy and I was 6 months younger than Chuck . I have happy memories of eating apple pie made by Bea and riding down the upstairs s bedroom stairs on a sleeping bag with Chuck while our parents sat at the kitchen table & visited. I also have a cute photo of Chuck at my 5th birthday party with Bea in the background too! I don’t think Chuck enjoyed having to entertain a girl! But I loved visiting their house, & loved getting teased by his Dad Hanmy who called me Anna. I am so sorry I lost touch when we grew up. You never have friends in life like the ones you had when you were small. And the Nordgaards were special friends to my family.

I always enjoyed working with Charlie and had fun talking with him about my Dad working with his Dad Hammy at the cannery, his sister Judy being my school bus driver or him being an Eagle Scout. He had a lot of funny sayings at work like “If you don’t like this speed you won’t like the other one!” He was a nice person.

Although I barely knew Chuck I did know how happy he made my dear friend Lori. All my love to the family.

“I’ll decide” was the mantra of Charlie’s life. We were surprised by all the procedures he endured the last few years.....all for love of Lori. Campfires will never be the same...no one could pile up the wood like Charlie doing it his way. Gonna always miss you. You left us too soon. Give Jenni our love.

Words can not express the loss our family feels. Charlie always said “he was my favorite son-in-law”. Always helping us with anything we needed. Love you Charlie so much. Rest In Peace. Your favorite mother-in-law, Rose.

Love you and miss you so very much! We had SO MANY great times since we met in 1971..... Marrying in 1973, having Jenni in 1978 and Luke in 1980, and just enjoying life.
