Carol Sather Obituary

CAROL MAE SATHER
May 15, 1946 ˜ September 30, 2023

Carol Mae Sather (Mathieu) sadly passed away on Sept. 30, 2023. She was 77 years old. Carol was a loving and beautiful mother and wife.
She was born in Eau Claire, WI, to Miles and Edna Mathieu, and was one of four siblings. Her family moved to Vancouver, WA, when she was age 4.
Carol graduated from Fort Vancouver in 1964. In 1967, she married Grant Sather. Early on she worked in a hospital setting. In 1969, Carol and Grant had a daughter named Carmine.
When Carmine started high school, Carol went to business school, and then worked for a company called Rentrak, where she was a manager for roughly 10 years.
She was caring and fun to be around. Carol loved Smokey’s Pizza, listening to Billy Joel songs, reading Stephen King novels, and long walks.
She took part in Volkssport walks for almost two decades with her husband, where she did numerous walks totaling 24,837 kilometers. Carol was a dog lover, and she instantly made friends with every dog she came across on her walks.
Carol very much enjoyed visits with her daughter and son-in-law, who now live in Tennessee. The Oregon Coast was one of her favorite places to visit. She was a Portland Trail Blazers’ fan, and also had an extensive collection of Beanie Babies.
She and her two surviving siblings lived in close proximity, which she very much enjoyed.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Jim Mathieu.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Grant Sather; her daughter, Carmine Schulze; brother, Bob Mathieu; sister, Bonnie Walden; son-in-law, Tim Schulze, along with numerous nieces and nephews. She will be missed by many.

Dear Sather Family,
I am sorry to hear of the passing of Carol. I had the pleasure of working for Carol at Rentrak, she hired me in 1990 to be on her team. I have many fond memories of us decorating as a department for Halloween, where we were all pumpkins and she was the crow. We all called in sick on April Fools day one year, and were hiding in another office, giggling as we could hear her ranting about how is she going to close the week out. She was the best boss, and had the best sense of humor. She will truly be missed.
