Roland Bowen Obituary

ROLAND RHODES BOWEN
October 16, 1936 ~ August 12, 2016
"Roland was a gentle, kind, and generous man.
His weird sense of humor often got him in trouble."

Roland Rhodes Bowen, 79, of Vancouver, WA, passed away Aug. 12, 2016. His death came very fast, within two weeks of diagnoses of Pancreatic cancer, spreading to his liver and lungs. He was born in Mt. Pleasant, MI to James and Miriam Bowen. His early years were spent in Ithaca and Alma, MI.
Roland served his country for 22 years in the US Navy during the Vietnam War. Most of his career was abroad aircraft carriers in the South Pacific including Philippines, China, and Japan.
Roland didn't drink, smoke, or cuss, and Carlene
once asked him, "What kind of sailor are you?"
He met his wife, Carlene in 1997 and they had 19 years together, traveling across the country and to foreign countries several times.
Roland enjoyed board games and had a great love for cards of any sort, his big Koi fish, wildlife, and most of all, his Lord.
He was a member of the Church of God since childhood where he was always faithful and true and the Naval Fleet Reserve, Clark County Newcomers, Naval Org. "Iron Angles", AARP, Salt, and many more.
Roland leaves his wife, brothers and sister, and many nieces and nephews.
He will be buried at sea with full military honors as he wished.
