Rex Pruitt Obituary

REX CECIL PRUITT
October 12, 1931 ˜ December 9, 2022

Rex Pruitt, 91, of Vancouver, WA, passed away Dec. 9, 2022, after a battle with esophageal cancer. Rex is survived by his wife of 70 years, Barbara Hale Pruitt; siblings, Larry Pruitt and Wayne Pruitt; children, Chris (Judy) Pruitt, Mark (Janice) Pruitt, Lorrie (Frank) Donahue, and Kelly (Sonja) Pruitt; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Rex was born to Arelious and Etha Pruitt in Webster City, IA, and moved to Vancouver, WA in 1943. He attended Ogden Meadows elementary school, Washington elementary school, Mac (Jr) High, and Vancouver High School. Followed by Clark College where he studied accounting.
Rex founded, with his brother Larry, real estate and construction businesses that served Clark County for decades. He was on the steering committee that established the Clark County Home Builders in 1969. In the mid 70s, he was instrumental in founding the Clark County Parade of Homes, and was president of the CCHBA in 1978. Upon retirement, he enjoyed his golden years with his bride in Grapeview, WA on Mason Lake in a home he was happy to share with family and friends, moving back to Vancouver in 2019.
Rex was a longtime member of Glenwood (formerly Minnehaha) Community Church, where he and his wife and children were introduced to a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. He served his church family in numerous capacities, from teaching Sunday school, serving on the church board, to acting as church treasurer for many years.
Rex was known for being a joyful, humorous, honest, faithful, and generous man. He was early and eager to try new technologies as they arrived in his lifetime. He enjoyed watching the Seahawks and Mariners, playing Solitaire and Sudoku, and he couldn’t pass up a good deal. He opened his door and wallet to all, and loved his wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, friends, and neighbors with open-hearted, unconditional kindness. Rex was easy to love, and he loved, laughed, and cried easily.
There will be a private family gathering on December 27th. A celebration of life memorial service will be held on a future date.

I see my sister Valerie already said it best on here, but I want to say similarly how he was always so funny, so loving, and he engaged with me, even as a child. I too can never remember NOT knowing him. It is hard to picture Rex without Barbara. They were such a unit-an example of what it meant to become "One".
I am so sorry for your loss. The best part now, is that he is with Jesus.
He was a good friend to my dad and we Paeth girls had such great memories of him and your whole family. May God comfort you as it is so great a loss here on Earth but we know we will see him with Jesus one day too. (What a party that will be!)

Condolences from

Mr Pruitt is one of those iconic figures that has "always" been present in my life. I don't remember a time when I didn't know him. He, his wife and kids just always "were.". Our families grew up together and we are still connected with an eternal bond through Jesus Christ. My sister's first comment to us upon hearing of Rex's passing was, "Rex is cracking jokes with mom and dad today in heaven." Such a comforting thought. I remember as a young college student launching into my own adulthood and writing my own checks to the church. Mr Pruitt was the church treasurer and one Sunday he quietly handed me a piece of "paper" and said, " This is for you " and walked off. I looked down and there was my first-ever bounced check and it was to my church!! I was so embarrassed but Rex never mentioned it again, never lectured me on my mistake or told me to hurry up and write another "good" check. He was so good at not making me feel bad that I actually forgot about it until thinking back over my connection with him when I heard he had passed away. He was a great man who filled a lot of people's heart with laughter. He was a great friend to my parents and he and Barbara raised a family of wonderful people who I cherish as my friends. I am so grateful for how God worked in his life to bring him to Jesus and in so doing, brought the Pruitt family into my life. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I know you all will miss him more than words can express. When there is great love, there is great loss. But there is also great hope because of Jesus, and eternity in heaven is going to be a blast. Much love to the whole Pruitt family. You all are the best and you learned from the best.

Had the privilege to first meet Rex Pruitt in 1966 when we purchased a lot in Pruitt's Addition #1 from him in late 1966. Realizing his talents and honesty, we had him build our home. He built many homes in the area that were very well built and affordable. I will always remember Rex as being a very honest home builder and reputable person. Rex Pruitt will be missed by all who knew him.

Sincere condolences extended to the entire family. Rex and Barbara were school acquaintances. May God give the entire family comfort and peace knowing Rex is now in the arms of the Lord, where there is no longer suffering and pain.

My deepest sympathies. The Pruitt family brought us to Vancouver, and played a huge role in our life. Our family thank you for the opportunities you provided. Again, I'm sorry for your loss.
