Pearl Shields Obituary

PEARL E. WARDLE SHIELDS
October 25, 1908-October 10, 2008

Pearl E. Shields of Bend, OR, passed away peacefully October 10, 2008, at age 99, at Hospice House. She was born in Sacramento, California to Ralph L. and Pearl B. (Schaefer) Wardle. She spent her childhood in Sacramento, CA and Ashland, OR. She had many fond memories playing with her cousins in Sacramento and playing with her friends in Lithia Park in Ashland. Pearl graduated from Ashland High School and attended Ashland Normal School, now Southern Oregon University.
She married Marshall "Dutch" Shields in December 1935. They resided in Vancouver, WA for fifty years, except for a brief time in the 60's when they started a sawmill in Priest River, Idaho.
In 1985 they moved to Bend, OR, to be closer to their daughter and two granddaughters.
Pearl was a homemaker. She enjoyed her family and friends. She was an avid knitter and knitted hundreds of sweaters and afghans for family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Jane Lussier, of Bend; and five granddaughters: Debi Barham of Shreveport, LA, Janelle Pflug of Portland, OR, Julane Dover of Bend, Jackie Mans of Tualatin, OR and Jenny Groshong of Eugene, OR. She is survived by thirteen great-grandchildren.
Pearl was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall; and two sons, William (Bill) and Jack.
At her request no service will be held.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice Center, 2075 N.E. Wyatt Ct., Bend, OR 97701.
