Helen Eager Obituary
"Becky" has passed beyond the door, to the land of sweet contentment, over on the other shore, October 7, 2006 at the age of 94. She was born Helen Rebecca deConinck-Smith, March 7, 1912 in Glenwood, WA to Ove and May deConinck-Smith.
Throughout her life, her home was always open to anyone who needed a helping hand, a kind word, or moral support. Becky was "mother" and advisor to many young people as they were growing up. As several kids through the years said, "I would have starved if it hadn't been for Becky and the "pot of beans and pan of shortbread" that was always available."
Becky was a licensed beautician and practiced under the name of Helen deConinck. She was a poet, artist, writer, presser of flowers, and maker of ceramics. She taught Sunday School, and during the second world war was a first aid instructor.
Becky was a Hostess at the Holland Restaurant for eight years in the 1950's. She also was a waitress, which she claimed was the job she loved best. Becky, her husband, and son owned a direct marketing business they called "Eager Beaver Sales", helping to earn her the title of "Woman of the Year" in the American Business Women's Association.
Becky is survived by her devoted husband of 60 years, Russell H. Eager; son, Ron Swanson and daughter-in-law, Marilyn D. Swanson; grandsons, Jim and Vincent Swanson; sister, Carol Kuhnhausen; brother, Buckley Smith; and many nieces and nephews. She had so many, many friends and loved ones who will miss her greatly.
At her request, there will be no services or memorials. Donations, in her honor, may be made to the Ray Hickey Hospice House, 2112 Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver, WA.
_To quote Helen from one of her poems:
"As long as any remain of friends and loved ones true.
She will live and linger here, in the hearts of all she knew.
She is just a little way ahead, and soon we'll catch up, too.
And walk along with her, just like we used to do."
