Daniel Morasch Obituary

DANIEL MORASCH
1932 ~ 2011

Dr. Daniel Morasch of Vancouver, WA, went home to be with Jesus on March 17, 2011. He died peacefully at home with his family. Dan was born in Camas, WA in 1932 and graduated from Camas High School in 1950.
Shortly after high school, he served as a U. S. Navy radioman in the Korean conflict.
Following his tour with the Navy, Dan attended Clark College for two years then transferred to the University of Washington where he graduated from Dental School in 1962.
In 2003, after 41 years of successful dental practice in Vancouver, Dan retired to spend more time with his family and enjoy the outdoors.
Dan loved to spend time with his family and friends especially on Murphy Lake in Canada as well as on the Washougal River in Skamania County. He loved the outdoors especially if it included fishing or working in his garden.
He attended Glenwood Community Church.
Dan was awarded the distinguished Clark College Alumni Award for Community Service and Accomplishments in 2004. One of Dan's proudest achievements was his co-founding of the Clark County Youth Football League. This organization has grown from 2 teams and 60 players in 1983 to its current 60 teams and approximately 1500 players. Dan also coached countless youth sports in the community including football, basketball, baseball, and softball. In 1998 he received the Nike Co-coach of the Year award from the Portland Trail Blazers and in 1999 was honored by the National Football Federation of the NFL. Dan served on the SW Washington Hospital Foundation Board, Clark College Foundation Board of Directors, Clark College Alumni Association Board of Directors, Day Break Board of Directors and was a strong supporter of Clark College Penguin Athletic Club. As a member of the Clark County Dental Society, Dan was involved in the research, promotion, planning and implementation of the Clark College School of Dental Hygiene Program.
Dan is survived by his wife of 42 years, Leah (Wilmart) Morasch; and his children, Dr. Mark Morasch of Chicago and his wife Gemma and their four children, Tammi Morasch of Vancouver, and Matthew Morasch of Vancouver and his wife Maureen and their two children. He is also survived by his brother, Retired Lt. Col. John Morasch USAF of Vancouver, Mary Margaret (Morasch) Meyer of Nampa, ID, and Flory (Morasch) Eby and her husband Don of Vancouver.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Connie (Shaw) Morasch; his parents, Anna and John Morasch; and six siblings.
The celebration of Dan's life will be held at Glenwood Community Church, Friday, March 25, at 11:00 a.m.
Memorial contributions can be made to Clark County Youth Football Scholarship Fund at PO Box 871962, Vancouver, WA 98687 or Glenwood Community Church at 12201 NE 72nd Avenue, Vancouver, WA 98686.

Dearest Leah, Mark, Gemma, Tammi, Matthew, Maureen and Family Members,

We are grateful to have known Dan as a fantastic neighbor, a friend, and as a disciple and believer in Jesus Christ who lived his life with integrity and joy that radiated to everyone who knew him.

The synergy of how Dan’s life was interwoven with his values for family, honor, and service underscored why he was able to bring a sincere energetic smile or to reflect a look of compassion---Dan truly had a personal relationship with Jesus and followed his example.

Dan's personable way epitomized gentle hospitality and beckoned a genuine WELCOME to everyone. He had a special grace of empathy and compassion inspiring him to share words of comfort, confidence or insight when a person needed it.

Our special memories of Dan’s authentic openness occurred (more than once during summers) whenever we took a leisure walk down by the river to find him actively working in his sumptuous garden brimming with vegetables---he beamed “let me send some tomatoes or beans home with you!

He so much loved life, his family, and taking a moment to savor his joy in each of his childrens accomplishments and watching his grandchildren grow.

His death certainly creates a loss in our world; BUT, he will bring such a joy to heaven that it is hard not to smile "this wonderful man with an Irish heart whose happy dancing feet enjoyed swirling around the dance floor, somehow managed to make St. Patrick’s Day the day he returned to his heavenly home."

Each of you are the fiber of his being and legacy that continues to give us the example he epitomized~ Love. Thank you for being you.

You all are in our prayers for God to bless you through this sad time.

Always your friends, Robert & Sharon

Dear Leah, Mark and Family, Our family is deaply saddened by the passing of a most genuine, kind and humble man. I will always treasure the times we were together. Especially, a most incredible trip to the cabin in Canada. The two weeks spent with Mr. Morasch in his element will forever be a vivid and powerful reminder of the terrific person that he will always be. You will be missed by all that you have met and all that your kindness and dedication have touched.

Dear Leah and Family,
I just heard of Dan's passing and am so sorry to miss the funeral and wake.
My fondest childhood memories were with the Morasch family heading to the mountain to ski in the packed station wagon. Dan and Leah were so generous and giving to allow us to go with them when we didn't have a ride.
The Morasch family introduced me to the wonderful Terrell's and again, just great memories.
Dan was a humble man and dedicated to his work and family. He was always so nice to talk to when I'd see him to get my teeth cleaned and examined. He knew how to treat people and create loyalty.
I am saddened by his loss as I'm sure his family is

Dear Leah and Family,

I just heard of Dan's passing and am so sorry to miss the funeral and wake.
My fondest childhood memories were with the Morasch family heading to the mountain to ski in the packed station wagon. Dan and Leah were so generous and giving to allow us to go with them when we didn't have a ride and took us under their wing.

The Morasch family introduced me to the wonderful Tyrrell family and again, wonderful memories.

Dan was a humble man and dedicated to his work and family. He was always pleasant and genuinely interested in you. He knew how to treat people and create loyalty.

I am saddened and yet know his spirit will live on in his family and all the people he has touched. Thank you Dan for being their for my brothers and I when we needed someone like you.

Bob Silva. I met Dan at Murphy Lake many years ago and found him to be a very gentle person. A man that always offered his medical knowledge when needed. I remember him stiching up an open wound for an undeserving man. Dan was a better person than I could ever hope to be. Murphy Lake will never be the same. My heart goes out to all that loved him. Working chairside for Dan was my first "real" job, back in the early '70's, when my mom (Shirley) was his receptionist. I learned so much from him, and not just about dentistry. Some of the little "gems of wisdom" he said still ring in my ears today. Thanks for everything, Dan... blessings to your family.

Dr. Morasch was our family dentist for years. When I was a kid I loved to go and get a prize from the basket! He was a wonderful man. He will be missed by all who knew him.

There are few people that can love as passionately as Dan did. He lit up the room, the light radiated from his eyes, his smile warmed your soul, he truly made you feel as if you were someone very special. He lived his life the way that we all should...working hard, relaxing with family & friends, serving others in need, savoring each moment! Over the years we watched him laugh, cry, discuss, encourage, question, reprimand, comfort or reassure us with the respect, interest, pride and love that only a father figure can feel for his beloved children. I feel extremely blessed to have grown up next door to you Dan, you showed me JESUS!!!! His Holy Spirit & Love guided you throughout your lifetime on this earth, now your spirit lives on for eternity. You've already heard, "Well done, my good & faithful servant!" You feel no pain, no worries, pure bliss, we don't cry for you but ourselves as you are dearly missed! Yes, he lived his life as we all should! God Bless you Leah & children~ you are in my thoughts & prayers now & forever with all of my love, Laurie Larsen (Woodburn)

So sad to hear that we have lost such a wonderful man. Dr. Dan was not only my neighbor for many of my impressionable growing-up years, but also my employer for a while, and my Dentist until the day he retired! I will carry fond memories of him with me my entire life.

I will never forget the time he took with my siblings and I to teach us how to water ski and enjoy being out on the lake. He was ALWAYS sooo patient with us. We all have a deep love for him and his wonderful wife, Leah.

Dr. Dan will be greatly missed by many. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you, Leah, and the rest of your family.

Doctor Dan was such a great gentleman and true friend! He always had that smile, cheerful look in his eye, and friendly approach to everyone. He made everyone he came in contact with feel welcome.
We can never thank him enough for the time and talent he shared with the many young men on the football and baseball field. We would never have had the success of CYO and Clark County Youth Football without Doctor Dan. He will be missed.
Our prayers are for the Morasch Family.
