Alfred Schauer Obituary

ALFRED CHARLES SCHAUER
November 14, 1947 ˜ January 23, 2026

Alfred “Big Al” Schauer passed away peacefully at home on January 23, 2026, surrounded by family.

Al described his life simply: “From cows to combat zones to CEO.” Born in San Mateo, CA, he grew up on a dairy farm in La Honda before answering his country’s call during Vietnam, serving overseas with the Navy SeaBees and earning a Purple Heart. Al returned home to his engineering technician position at the City of Hayward, CA. In 1977, he moved his family to Battle Ground, WA. At the age of 29, he joined MacKay Sposito (MSi), beginning a 34-year career marked by dedication and integrity. Al quickly became a leader in the firm and the SW WA community. He served as the CEO of MSi for a decade, where he grew the firm into a thriving multi-state business with a stellar reputation. After retiring in 2011, he founded PointNorth Consulting and authored the book, All In: Leadership (is a Verb), Qualities Learned for Character-Driven Leadership.

A Parkinson’s diagnosis in 2018 slowed him, but never stopped him. True to form, he just got up and moved forward the same way he would wake his children every morning: “Reveille! Reveille! Reveille! It’s time to get up!”

Al loved the Blazers, mountain hikes in cool fall air, his FJ40 Land Cruiser, his Porsche 911, houses with views, and making the people around him better. Most of all, he loved spoiling his grandchildren, who called him “Pop.”

He is survived by his wife Lisa Keohokalole Schauer; children Timothy (Kelli), Nicole McGrath (Shawn), Alfred (Sarah), and Sydney; and grandchildren Trevor, Samantha, Jayden, Mikayla, Lindsay, Sylvia, Tucker, Henry, and Malcolm.

Al gave generously and selflessly. His impact will continue to be felt in the lives he touched and the love he shared.
