WILLIAM JOHN BURBRIDGE
March 21, 1936 ˜ December 2, 2021
William J. Burbridge of Vancouver, WA, died peacefully in his sleep Dec. 2, 2021, from progressive memory and mobility loss. He was born in Council Bluffs, IA, on March 21, 1936, to Beryle and Marjorie Burbridge. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Carol; daughter, Deanna Christy of Fargo, ND; stepdaughters, Sharon Kleinheinz of Orange, CA, Kathy Molyneux of Fargo, ND, Kari Pinc of Vancouver, WA; and stepson, Bill Ingemanson of Battle Ground, WA. He was a treasured grandfather to Diane Shaw of Orange, CA, and Nathan, Logan, and Justine Ingemanson, all from Battle Ground, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents and younger sister, Barbara Deshon.
Bill, as he was known to family and friends, graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs. He enlisted in the US Army Counterintelligence Corps and served in Omaha Nebraska from 1959-1960 and overseas in Pusan Korea in 1960-1961. Upon returning to the United States, he continued his college education and graduated with Bachelors’ and Masters’ degrees in Mechanical Engineering from California State University, Long Beach. He worked at Kwikset and Mattel before retiring from Los Angeles Water and Power in 1997 and moving with Carol to Vancouver.
Bill had a thirst for knowledge and enjoyed crossword puzzles, fishing, photography, and family gatherings. He cherished life to the fullest, had a deep hearty laugh, and was a deeply religious Lutheran who was active in the church’s stewardship, bible study, youth group, and care for the homeless programs. He had a lifelong love of singing that he shared with others in the church choir. His rich baritone voice filled the church during his solos and will continue to do so in heaven.
Bill loved his family with his whole heart and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. There was not a better husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, or role model, and our memories of him will be cherished and live in our hearts forever. The family wishes to thank the committed caregivers at Vintage Years Care Home and Padden Parkway Adult Care for their expert and comforting care of Bill during the last several years.
A celebration of Bill’s life and memorial service will be held at St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Vancouver, WA at 2 p.m. on Jan. 21, 2022, with his final resting place at St. Andrew Lutheran Church.
