Margie Jurgens Obituary

MARGIE MAE HANCHETT JURGENS
July 12, 1932 ˜ May 22, 2022

Margie M. Jurgens passed away of natural causes, with her family by her side, on May 22, 2022. She was born on July 12, 1932, in Port Angeles, WA, the oldest of four children born to Carmi and Margaret Hanchett.
She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Port Angeles in 1950 and attended both Western Washington College and the University of Washington. In 1952 she married Donald Warner in Forks, WA. They had three children and later divorced.
In 1972 she graduated from Central Washington College with both a BA and MA in Elementary Education. She taught primary grades in Camas, WA, from 1972 to 1995. She loved her career and her students. She often said teaching was all she ever wanted to do.
She married Bill Jurgens in 1977 and gained four new children. In their time together they enjoyed boating, traveling, gardening, and each other’s company. Bill preceded her in death in 2007.
Marge was an avid bridge player, a prolific gardener, a voracious bargain hunter, and loved playing her accordion. Always a reader, she was proud that she read two books a week during the pandemic. She was a dear friend to many and will be missed.
She is survived by her children, Mark Warner (Marilyn), Koby Johnson (Steve), and Layle Pavlina (Dan); stepchildren, Jane Atti (James), Victor Jurgens (Dee Ann), Alison Meyer (Gregg) and Alex Jurgens (Gaelyn); sisters, Shelby Hewitt and Kathy Jessup; numerous grandchildren and a growing group of great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Jurgens; brother, Ken Hanchett; and grandson, Max Johnson.
A celebration of Marge’s life will be held on July 9, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Harvest Community Church in Camas.

Margie was my first grade teacher at Helen Baller Elementary school in 1974-75. She was a wonderful teacher that my classmates and I were blessed to have. As a child, it's hard to understand what great things you have in life, but as life goes on those great things become so much easier to see. I have always thought that Margie was a special teacher and that feeling has grown over the years. I am very appreciative of the impact she had in my life. Thank you Margie; you will be missed for sure.

I was so sorry to hear of Marge's passing. I had the pleasure of knowing Marge these past 15 years in our neighborhood activities committee and bunco group. She was always ready to help with a project, including hosting our annual Santa visit for several years. She was a lovely lady, and she will be missed.

Marge held my hand as we moved into the Camas, Wa area from St. Louis. We shared subbing in the Camas School District, gardening, bridge and became close buddies in the process for 19 years. I will miss her smile and her great sense of humor. She was a special lady who will forever stay close in my memory. Blessings to the family! Ruth Harbaugh
