KIMBERLEE WRIGHT MAHAN

Kim Wright Mahan passed away on Sept. 4, at the age of 68 after a five-month illness. Kim was born in Oregon and grew up in Hillsboro with her two sisters. She demonstrated an artistic streak early in her life and earned a Bachelor’s degree in painting from Portland State University. Kim loved children and worked as a preschool teacher for several years. She married Mark in 1984, and with their daughter in tow were able to live abroad in England and Spain for Mark’s work assignments. Kim was an avid and gifted cook. She attended the culinary program at Clark College with plans to start a catering business. In Spain, Kim taught cooking classes to expat “trailing spouses,” and upon returning to Vancouver, she opened her cooking school “Class Cooking” where she taught for 20 years. Class Cooking was located next to Burnt Bridge Cellars, a small winery that Kim and Mark started with another local family. Kim and Mark traveled often, seeking out culinary experiences that became part of Kim’s teaching curriculum. Kim retired from teaching last October. She is survived by husband, Mark; daughter, Emilee; son-in-law, Jared; grandson, Tobin; and sisters, Cherllynn and Nancy. A celebration of Kim’s life will be scheduled in the next year. Please check with the Burnt Bridge Cellars winery for details.
