JOHN HORN Obituary

JOHN EARL HORN
October 15, 1946 ˜ December 10, 2022

John Earl Horn of Vancouver, WA, passed away peacefully, Dec. 10, 2022 at age 76.
John was preceded in death by his Father Jerrold Horn and His Mother Betty Horn, of Washougal, WA.
John is survived by his wife of 54 years, Roberta Horn; children, David Horn, Elizabeth Volker; brothers, Jim and Jerry Horn; sister, Wanda Laddusaw; as well as four granddaughters.
John was born in Vancouver, Oct. 15, 1946. John was the oldest of four children. John attended Washougal High school and graduated in 1964. During High School, John enjoyed playing baseball, football and fishing.
John also attended the Camas Assembly of God Church, where He met and courted his wife Roberta. John and Roberta were married in June of 1968.
John was a long time resident of Camas, WA.
At seventeen years old John began working for the Camas Papermill.
Wanting to expand his career John attended college in the evenings to become an Electrician. John enjoyed his work and was well liked by his peers, who affectionately called him “Jack” for his uncanny resemblance to Jack Nicholson.
During his career John worked very hard and honed his skills to become a Master Electrician.
In his free time John enjoyed fishing, hiking with his son David, taking family road trips, reading books with his daughter Elizabeth and volunteering as a deacon at his Church.
In 2004, John retired from the Camas Papermill with 41 years of service. A short time later
John took a position at Portland State University. John worked the next 10 years for PSU facilities, trouble shooting electrical issues all over campus. Along with his work at PSU John and his wife, Roberta, enjoyed hosting many foreign exchange students as well as visiting Kona, HI, where they Volunteered with Youth With A Mission (YWAM).
Once fully retired John enjoyed visiting Hawaii every year, fixing computers, sailing, reading and watching his favorite sport Baseball.
John was a very kind and generous man. A great husband and father who gave selflessly to all that needed his help. He has played a significant role in many lives and he will be greatly missed by all that new him.
A celebration of life will take place Jan. 14, 2022, at 2 p.m., North Lake Church: 500 SE Everett St., Camas, WA 98607

John was our neighbor in Camas, WA for 15 plus years. We also attended the same church for a period of time prior to us moving from the Camas. It´s an understatement to say the Horns were idyllic neighbors. John´s yard and home was archetypical of perfection. As to character John was exemplary of a follower of Christ.
Roberta and children our condolences for the loss of a wonderful husband and father.
How satisfying to know that his life ended in victory over death.
Glory be to our savior, the Lord Jesus Christ

John and I fished a few times together on the Columbia River near Camas. One time we fished the lower end of Camas Slough. The fall Chinook were "rolling" all around us. We were at anchor at the mouth of the slough. We tried almost every lure and bait we had. The Chinook were rolling (out of water) within two feet of my boat. But not a strike. There were many other boats out and we did not see one fish caught. The fishing was great, but the catching was poor. LOL
