Jeffrey Cramer Obituary

JEFFREY DALE CRAMER
October 25, 1960 ˜ March 28, 2024

Jeffrey Dale Cramer, lifelong resident of Vancouver, WA, passed away March 28, 2024, after fighting a courageous battle with an aggressive cancer.

Jeff was born Oct. 25, 1960, to Donald (Donnie) and Sally Cramer, their first child and only son. His adoring sisters, Cristi and Cori, soon followed. Jeff graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1979 where he enjoyed being on the wrestling team and discovered a lifelong love of taxidermy and tanning leather hides.

He continued his education at Washington State University in Pullman, WA. He rowed on the crew team. He graduated in construction management and found his first job in Santa Barbara working in hotel construction. He returned to Vancouver in the late 80’s and started his own business building custom homes. He had such an attention for detail and interesting additions to make every home he built one of a kind. He also owned and operated Minnehaha Car Wash. After his dad’s passing in 2013, Jeff joined in the management of Cramer Construction, property management of commercial buildings.

Jeff welcomed his only child, Christian Don Cramer, in November of 1998. He could not have been prouder of the successful young man he has become.

Jeff enjoyed many activities. Physical fitness (weight-lifting), he always had a full gym at his house. Astronomy, he had multiple telescopes, a camera that could take pictures of space, and an actual observatory building constructed on his property. He enjoyed restoring old cars, Jeeps, snowmobile drag racing, and offshore boats.

His love of all things water brought him to a favorite job later in life, harbor master at Salpare Marina on the Columbia River. Though it was a part time gig, he enjoyed it so very much because he made so many new friends, who also loved everything on the water.

Jeff was known for being a pretty quiet guy, enjoyed living alone and his own company, an immediate friend to all he met, always there to help out when asked or take over when help was needed without anyone having to ask.

He fortunately found someone to share his last year with, Tara, whom he had known for quite some time as friends. Tara gracefully helped care for him as he battled cancer.

He is survived by his son, Christian; mom, Sally; sisters, Cristi and Cori (Skeet); and nephews, Luke and Zachary Amstad. His beloved nephew, Max, preceded him.

A private family graveside service was held at Evergreen Memorial on April 9, 2024. A celebration of life is planned Saturday, Aug. 3, from noon-2 p.m. at 3 Sheets at the Harbor on Hayden Island.

Even though we're both from Battle Ground, Jeff and I got acquainted at WSU (Pullman) in 1980, first on the same dorm floor and then as roommates in a campus apartment. Many of my memories of Jeff involve him driving (something) way too fast and me being terrified.

He set speed records between Pullman and Battle Ground for Thanksgiving break. With 3 more of us squeezed in that beige '78 TransAm. I had to fold up in the back seat behind Jeff, his sister Christi also somewhere back there- I never saw her for all the bags crammed to the roof between us.

At the WSU apartment another roommate started playing this annoying music - it was Manhattan Transfer. Jeff couldn't handle it. Saying nothing he pulls that album off, cranks up Journey. Back and forth it goes, the Manhattan Transfer vs Journey stereo war. Just when MT was winning the whole place goes quiet and dark. Jeff won- he shut down the main electrical breaker. Ha!

Jeff could be quiet in a crowd, as people have said, but you'd learn he was also smart, observent, present, thoughtful. Jeff showed up, with his chuckle laugh, towing some cool boat (which I could never afford). You had a good run Jeff. Thanks.
