FRANCIS "FRANK" D. MURPHY
July 7, 1924 ~ January 22, 2013
The angels came for Francis "Frank" D. Murphy, 88, of Vancouver, WA, on Jan. 22, 2013. He was born July 7, 1924 in Sarles, ND, the sixth of eleven children born to Tom and Nellie Murphy.
At age 18, Frank enlisted in the U.S. Navy. In July 1943, his ship, the U.S.S. Chincoteague was bombed 11 times in three days.
After six years in the Navy, Frank returned to North Dakota and worked for the Great Northern Railroad, later as a conductor for SP&S in Wishram, WA and the Burlington Northern Railroad in Vancouver, WA. He retired after 36 years.
On Jan. 1, 1951, Frank met Carol Mortinson and they were happily married, for 61 years. They enjoyed traveling, especially to Hawaii.
Frank is survived by his wife, Carol; son, Karl; grandson, Tom (Jenny); granddaughter, Tina; great-granddaughters, Madison and Morgan; two sisters; and one brother.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and five sisters.
Internment will be held on Tues., Feb. 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Willamette National Cemetery.

I had the honor of meeting Frank when I worked at the Vancouver Clinic. He came into the cardiology department and we always found a moment or two to visit. He signed a copy of his book that I gave to my father on Fathers Day a few years back. He was a good man with a beautiful smile and a good heart. my life is better for knowing him.

Frank will be missed at the Luepkie senior center. We were sailors on different oceans during WW2. He was a nice person.
