Evar L. Knudtson
1935 - 2021

May 26, 1935 ˜ January 21, 2021

Evar was born in Keene, NH, to Benedict I. Knudtson and Elvi Knudtson. He was raised in Warwick, MA, six miles from the junction of MA, NH, and VT.
Evar graduated from Thayer High School in Winchester, NH. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst at a time when only 5,000 students attended the school. He graduated in 1958 with a Master’s Degree in Forestry from the Yale School of Forestry.
Evar retired from a civil service career of 34 years with the U.S. Forest Service, except for two years in the army in Korea.
Evar is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sandy; son, Dana (Ann); son, Dean (Joy); and daughter, Denise (Brett); three grandchildren, Kim Knudtson, Danielle Knudtson, and Brian Sung (Eunjoo); and one great-grandchild, Noah Sung.
Evar spent his summers fighting forest fires throughout the United States. He kicked off the fall each year with time spent hunting elk at Core’s Camp with Alan and all the boys. Family Thanksgiving and Christmases were spent at the beach in the camp trailer enjoying time beachcombing, crabbing, and clamming. He instilled his love for the mountains and the beach in all of his kids. After Sandy retired, they traveled to the casinos of Oregon, Washington, and Nevada to enjoy the shows, walks along the riverfronts, and beaches. As time went on, he became an avid reader, with Louis L’Amour being one of his favorites.
Evar’s commitment to the Boy Scouts started in 1948 as a scout and carried through to 1995. He participated in activities throughout the years with annual canoe trips on the McKenzie and Willamette Rivers in Oregon. He was a member of the Right of Way Association and held numerous positons, and 40 et 8.
Evar will be deeply missed!

Dear Sandy, Oh my, what a loss. Evar was such a wonderful, energetic, and dynamic person. I always loved seeing him at our St. Patrick's Day parties! My heart goes out to you. I know he passed in January, but I just read the obituary in the Columbian this past Sunday. Sending love to you, Diane
