Earl Allen Glass
Earl Allen Glass was born on Jan. 7, 1935 in Portland, OR. He died Dec. 18, 2006 in Vancouver, WA. Earl is survived by his beloved wife of 28 years, Darlene; children, Michele Anderson, Marc Glass, Kathy Cornelison, Diane Simon and David Gaunt; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandsons and sister, Dorothy Hall. Earl graduated in 1952 from Grant High School in Portland. He went on to attain a Bachelor degree in Education at Portland State University followed by earning a Master in Education from the University of Oregon, where he became a member of the Delta Tau Rho Fraternity. After two years teaching high school English and History in Portland, Earl embarked on a 30 yr. career with the Battle Ground School District. There he taught English and History before becoming their Vice Principal. He was the founding principal of Prairie High School in 1979, later moving into District Administration, though he missed working with the kids. After retiring in 1990, he developed a talent for real estate investment and was like family to his many tenants. Earl served in the Air National Guard, intent on becoming a pilot, until his failing eyesight ended that dream. After transferring to the Army National Guard, he retired as a Major with 23 yrs. of service. He was also an active member of Calvary Presbyterian Church, where he served on the Board of Elders. Earl loved sports and was an avid Mariners fan who watched every game he could. He also enjoyed coin collecting, antique cars, photography and travel, often vacationing in Hawaii and the Oregon Coast. Earl's death ended a 16-yr. battle with cancer. He valiantly overcame many obstacles and persevered in the face of repeated setbacks, exhibiting a strong will to live. He continued to lead a productive life, presiding as the Patriarch of 27 family members at this last Thanksgiving celebration. He was a man of integrity who always knew and did what was right. He was the beacon by which his family set their course. He will be greatly missed. Earl's memorial service will be held Thurs., Dec. 28, 2006, at 2:00pm, at Calvary Presbyterian Church, 3516 NE 71st Ave., Portland, OR, on the corner of Fremont and Sandy. Because Earl received many blood transfusions this year, in lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who are able donate blood to the blood bank, please do so. Gifts to Calvary Presbyterian Church are also appreciated.
