BENJAMIN HELD SR.
July 12, 1933 ~ October 3, 2014
"Ben loved to share his passions with others
and if you had the privilege of meeting him,
you know he had a heart of gold. He left a lasting
impression on all that knew him."

Benjamin "Grampy" Held Sr. passed away in Longview, WA. He was born in Yreka, CA on July 12, 1933.
In his 81 years, he lived a full and active life-spending as much time as possible in the great outdoors. He started logging at a young age and later worked in construction where he operated heavy equipment and joined Local 701. Ben spent many years in Ridgefield, WA before retiring and moving to Longview.
He was a master of the river and woods and was an exceptional fisherman and hunter. Ben loved to spend time with family and friends going fishing, hunting, clamming and crabbing.
Ben will be greatly missed by his wife of 25 years, Diane Held, whom he loved dearly of Kelso, WA; his children, Benjamin Held, Jr. of Longview, WA, Eva Primley (Barry) of Battle Ground, WA, Debra Held of Canby, OR and Dana Smith of Longview, WA; grandchildren, Matt and Mindi Eleazer of Battle Ground, WA, David Smith of Kelso, WA, Dustin and Donavon Smith of Longview, WA; sister, Mae Bradt of Cottage Grove, OR; his pup, Riley; and his many friends.
Ben did not wish to have a formal service, but there will be a Celebration of Life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Hospice, 1035 11th Ave., Longview, WA 98632.

I miss the phone ringing every other day. Either Ben checking on me or Me checking on him. It will be hard to find another fishing partner like him. Keep the hooks sharp and the bait fresh. I miss you.

Ben was a very special person. As our neighbor on the river, Ben was always ready for a good party or a work party if you needed help. He was a great friend we will miss him.
