VIRGINIA LEE MORIN STEINMETZ
March 8, 1950 ˜ June 23, 2020
Virginia Steinmetz, a Vancouver, Washington resident of 20 years, died of a pulmonary embolus on June 23, 2020 at Regional Medical Center in Kingman, Arizona. Born March 8, 1950 in Los Angeles, California, the oldest of three daughters of Captain and Mrs. Ronald Drake Morin, US Navy of Auburn, California. Virginia traveled quite extensively in the early years, to include Virginia, Hawaii, Alaska, and Washington D.C. She graduated from First Colonial High School in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Virginia’s first job was at the Cavalier Beach and Cabana Club in Virginia Beach, one of the Grand Hotels on the East Coast. Furthermore, she was trained as a medical assistant and later as a florist doing everything from a roadside stand to assisting the Rainbow Girls at the Rose Parade in Pasadena as she loved flowers.
Virginia married her loving and devoted husband of 24 years Marine Corps Staff Sargent David Wayne Steinmetz of Vancouver, WA on April 13, 1996 who provided a wonderful life for her. She and David moved to Golden Valley, AZ in 2013 to fulfill their dream of owning a beautiful place for her horses.
Virginia was a woman of many avid interests including beading, jewelry making, disability rights and advocacy, and resume writing for military veterans who were transitioning to the civilian field. Additionally, she enjoyed hunting and gun collecting with her husband, collecting Hallmark® Christmas ornaments including their rocking horse series, and anything Disney. Horses were her absolute passion for as long as she could walk. G.T. Mariner, her purebred Arabian gelding, was with her for 28 years, followed by numerous other horses, dogs, cats, and birds that she would rescue. Countless happy memories were made with all of the animals she rescued and loved. She was a groomer, breeder, trainer, rider, and showman winning numerous awards. She was a member of the California and Oregon Order of the Eastern Star, Order of the Amaranth as well as parent, volunteer, and chaperone for the International Order of the Rainbow Girls in California and Oregon.
A life well lived, she is survived by her father, Captain Ronald D. Morin, USN(R) of Auburn, CA; her husband, David W. Steinmetz of Golden Valley, AZ, her daughters Melanie L. Robinson, of Arlington, VA, Mary K. Sperry (Brian), of Lakeside, CA, Shannon M. Skirm, of Santee, CA and Katie C. Koppes, (Eric), of Camas, WA, her five grandchildren: Christopher (22), Rebecka (18) Madison (16), Natalie (16) and Jackson (13).
Virginia leaves behind her sister, Nancy E. Morin (Jeff Teal) of Auburn, CA; niece Janessa Morin-Teal; her nephews Trevor Womack (Robyn) of Reno NV and their children: Dillon, Rylie, and Alli; Justin Womack of Reno, NV; her uncle David Chester Griffith, Jr. of Woodland Hills CA, and her Griffith cousins John, Bill, Ken, Steve, Marilyn, Lorraine, and their children.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Griffith Morin, and her cousin Kathy Griffith Greene. Her sister Linda M. Morin joined her in heaven three days later on June 26, 2020. We love you Mom; you will be in our hearts always and forever.
