VERA JANE (SAGE) BASSETT
September 6, 1928 ~ December 2, 2017
Vera Bassett, 89, was born Vera Jane Sage, on September 6, 1928 in Kemmerer, WY, to William and Eva Sage. She was the fourth of eight children. The family eventually settled in Camas, WA, where she attended high school, and met her life-long love, Walt Bassett. The couple married while still in their teens, and were together until Walt's passing earlier this year. They had two children, Richard "Dick" and Sharon. Vera was a homemaker most of her life, and was content to raise her children, and let Walt make most of the big decisions. They moved to Battle Ground in 1965, where Walt became a well-known business man. They were both members of the Lions Club there, and Vera is a former member of the BG Garden Club. After retirement, they became Snow Birds, and Vera enjoyed many winters in the warm climate of Desert Hot Springs, CA. Her heart failed, and she passed away suddenly on December 2nd, 2017. She was loved by many, and will be missed by all. She is survived by her children, Dick Bassett and Sharon Woosley; three grandchildren, Stacey Bassett, Holli Woosley and Kyle Woosley; two great-grandchildren, Caroline and Parker Woosley; two sisters, Beverly Crisman and Linda Stewart; two brothers, Raymond and Larry Sage; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and three sisters, Mayme Shull, Alta Strebe and Oreta Lockhart.
Services for Vera will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, 1101 NE 112th Ave., Vancouver on Friday, December 15th, at 3 p.m.

Oh Mom...where do I begin? Thank you for being the wonderful, caring and loving mother you were. I am ever grateful for the loving and supportive family I was born in to. I must have been a young adult before I ever realized that not every kid was so fortunate. To this day, I am shocked by the horrid stories I hear of other people's childhoods. I thought everyone was loved, fed and cared for. I didn't really understand the gift you gave us, until I was middle age myself. Thank you. I know Dad is happy to have you back, and I hope you liked the new Cadillac he picked you up in, when you arrived at the pearly gates. I love you both, may you rest in eternal peace and mutual love. --Sharon

Vera was one of the sweetest and nicest lady my husband and I had ever met. She was in the same care facility as my Mother was before my Mother passed. Vera was a smart woman and always had a kind word for everyone. She will be missed very much, but never ever forgotten. my deepest sympathy for her family. She was a bright light in our lives.

Aunt Vera was the epitome of a "Southern Lady", gracious to her core. She reminded me of Grandma Sage, her looks, voice, mannerism's, and unconditional love. Her loss is felt deeply by all of us. Love, Coni & George
