February 9, 1924 ~ April 9, 2014

Valeria Juan (Munson) Ogden, 90, passed away peacefully Wed., April 9, 2014, at her home in Vancouver, WA, with her husband, Dan, and daughter, Patti, at her side. She was born Feb. 9, 1924, in Okanogan, to Ivan and Pearle (Wilson) Munson. She has one brother, Chuck Munson. Val grew up in Wenatchee, and graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1942 and later graduated from WSU in 1946 with a BA in Sociology.
On Dec. 28, 1946, she married the love of her life, Daniel M. Ogden, Jr. They have three children, Jan Martin (Jeff), Patti Hunter (Brad) and Dan Ogden (Carrol); six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
They lived in Pullman, WA, Fort Collins, CO and Washington, DC before moving to Vancouver, in 1984.
Val worked for many different not-for-profit organizations, including Camp Fire, United Way and the YWCA. In 1990, she was elected to the Washington State Legislature where she served for six terms. One of her proudest accomplishments was the Ogden Resource Center at the Washington School for the Blind.
Val and Dan loved to travel. They visited all the continents except Antarctica. Their last trip was a year ago when they went on a cruise to the Canadian Maritime Provinces. They also loved to hike many of the trails in the Columbia Gorge. She loved to cook, visit with family and friends, and would often offer a dinner at her home for various fundraising and charity events.
Val's family would like to thank the kind and wonderful caregivers who made it possible for Val to stay in her home. We would also like to thank her many friends for their encouragement and support.
A memorial service will be held at Gaiser Hall at Clark College on Sat., April 26, at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, Val's wishes were to make any donations to the Val and Dan Ogden Endowed Graduate Fellowship in Public Affairs at WSU. Make checks payable to WSU Foundation/Ogden Scholarship, 14204 NE Salmon Creek Ave., Vancouver, WA 98686.
