Susan Erma Howsley was born on June 14, 1948 to Erma and Edward Johnson in Portland, Oregon. Susan attended Willamette University where she became a member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in sociology. After graduation she worked for the Central Intelligence Agency under Vice-President Spiro Agnew for duties to the National Security Council and quickly advanced to a senior officer. At this time she also continued with graduate studies in library science at Catholic University. In 1974 she returned to Oregon to start a family and eventually settled in Vancouver, Washington in 1978. Susan became very active in the community volunteering with many organizations including the League of Women Voters, PTA and coaching her children's softball and soccer teams. In the late 1990's she moved to Sarasota, Florida where she resided for several years before returning to Vancouver to work as a mortgage banker and broker. Susan leaves two children, Kelly and Jamie of Portland, Oregon; and is also survived by her two sisters, Carolyn Small of Apache Junction, Arizona and Mary Fickett of Brinnon, Washington.
