Rosalie Smith Schachterle of Vancouver, WA was born on December 17, 1927 in Franklin, Nebraska to Arthur and Ada May Smith. She graduated from Franklin High School and worked in Franklin before meeting Pat. After she and Pat married, they lived in several different states _ Nebraska, Colorado, Washington, Virginia, Arizona, and Alaska _ before retiring to Vancouver.
Rosalie was an exemplary mother and wife, investing boundless time and energy into her sons' lives and then into her grandchildren's, seeking to instill traditional values and encouraging them to live up to their potential.
Rosalie was active in the church all of her life, starting at a young age where she had perfect attendance at Sunday school for 10 years. In addition to being a Den Mother, Room Mother, and "taxi driver" for her sons, she was also involved in the DAR for over 50 years.
Rosalie is survived by Pat Schachterle, her loving husband of over 71 years; brother, Everett Smith of Colorado; her two sons, Steven (Diane) of California and Randall (Cherie Sue) of Vancouver; 10 grandchildren; and her 15 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by brothers, Melford and Newton; sister, Lydia; and son, Richard.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 8th at Mill Plain United Methodist Church, 15804 SE Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver, WA 98684.
