October 4, 1946 ~ July 13, 2015

Ron's sense of humor and generous soul were obvious to all that knew him. A man of few words with a loving heart.

Ron graduated from Hudson Bay, class of 1964, and enjoyed Theatrics while attending Clark College.
He served in the Army in Vietnam from 1967-69. A platoon leader with the Co. A, 5th Battalion, 7th Calvary, Ron was awarded the Bronze Star in combat, "V" for Victory and Valiance; and then as first lieutenant receiving a Purple Heart, under the 1st Cavalry Division.
Ron enjoyed planning short trips and get-a-ways. His passions included traveling, gardening, cooking for friends and family, and wine tasting. His love and kindness acted as a beacon to all that knew him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Karin (Schwary) Fakler; daughter, Brandi (Dave) Towner; granddaughter, Taylor Watson; brother, Glenn (Annette); and nephew, Scott (Kathy) Fakler. He is deeply missed by all his loving family and friends.
There will be a private Celebration of Life for immediate family. October 5, 2015 will be a 'full salute' at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
Those that wish to honor Ron with a memorial donation, will be forwarded to Clark County Veterans Assistance Center, Attn: Judy Russell/fund administrator, 1305 Columbia St., Vancouver, WA 98660.

Miss Karin,

Oh I am so very, very saddened to just learn of the passing of your wonderful, so loving hubby Ron. I pray that God holds you so close at this difficult time. May you get comfort in knowing that he is with our Father in Heaven, in a place that is perfect beyond our greatest imagination.

I love you, Karin, I also loved Ron. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

God Bless you,

Debbie Tipton

I was in Lt Fakler's platoon in Vietnam. I had many telephone conversations with Ron over the last 46 years, but we were unable to visit face-to-face until a couple of years ago. I treasured this informal reunion and thanked him for the caring leadership he gave his men in an unimaginably difficult time.
