Bob, 55, died suddenly of COPD while working as a marine electrician in Jacksonville, FL. He was born to Ronald and Elizabeth Atkinson in Washington D.C. and grew up in nearby Maryland. At age 16, Bob moved with his family to Gresham, OR and after graduating high school a year later, he joined the U.S. Marines for a 4-year stint in Japan and the Philippines.
Bob's great love in life was repairing things; from home and car repairs to working on Naval ships, National Geographic ships and Princess Cruise ships to name a few. Being a marine electrician instilled a love of being on the water.
Bob cooked a mean BBQ rib dinner and loved little kids and animals. Southern rock made him a great dancer, but you'd still have to coax him up and out of a chair. Cold beer, friends and the U.S. Marines were paramount to him.
Bob is survived by his son, Robert Jr; daughter, Amanda; brother, David of Spokane, WA; sister, Molly of Atlanta, GA; mother, Betty of Vancouver, WA; and grandchildren, Adrian, Andrea and Jordan of Portland, OR. He was preceded in death by his father, Ron.
An informal Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends at 13100 NE Pinebrook St. on Sat., Vancouver, WA, on Sat., March 10th from 2-5p.m.
