December 24, 1939 ~ October 8, 2016

On October 8, 2016, Bob lost his three year battle with cancer and died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family at the age of 76. He was born December 24, 1939 in Salem, OR to Frank and Martha Gaylor. Bob graduated from Hudson's Bay High School in 1958, received a BS from Portland State University and his MBA from the University of Portland.
Bob believed in service to others. For many years, he was active in Little League, Y Indian Guides, and the Boy Scouts of America. He served on the City of Vancouver Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission and the City Planning Commission.
Bob retired from Frightliner Corporation in 1997, after working in management for 32 years. After retirement, he volunteered full time at Innovative Services Northwest, serving as the agency's president.
Of Bob's numerous accomplishments,
he was most proud of being a loving husband,
father, and grandfather.
A son wrote, "I learned a lot from my Dad: Love your wife; family first; give back to others; work hard; how to push through challenges; and most important, how to be a dad. In the end, Jesus heals and now my dad is healthy and at peace.".
Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years, Rita; three sons, Darren (Debbie), Dean (Kelley), and Damon (Shelly); daughter, Deanna Turner (Kevin); nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brothers, Bud and Roland; and sister, Sally Fawver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Martha; brothers, Frank, Jim, and Larry; and sisters, Martha Jean Burgess and Lois Newman.
Bob was an active member of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 17010 NE 9th St., Vancouver, WA, and his funeral Mass is scheduled there at 11a.m. on Thurs., Oct. 13, 2016, followed by a reception. The family will have a private internment at Park Hill Cemetery.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Rick Jackson; Dr. Ryan and staff at OHSU Cancer Institute; and PeaceHealth SW for their professional and compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Innovative Services NW, 9414 NE 4th Plain Blvd., Vancouver, WA 98662; PeaceHealth Hospice SW, PO Box 1600, Vancouver, WA 98668; or Holy Redeemer Building fund reduction.

Deanna, Rita and all the family,

You have been in our hearts this week, so glad you have one another to lean on in your time of sorrow! We didn't know Bob well, but it's clear he was a wonderful man with a heart of gold. We plan to make a donation to each of the three causes Bob cared about as a way of honoring his memory.

Bob and I worked closely together for my first 5 years at Freightliner. Besides being a great guy and becoming a friend, he was a key man in our dept. Bob reported to me in those early years and I very quickly learned that I could rely on him and know I had his complete support. Whatever success we accomplished in the Corporate Standards Department was due in a large part to Bob.

We lost contact after I retired and Kate and I moved to Arizona, but we will always remember Bob favorably and we will grieve along with Rita and the Gaylor family. His passing is surely a loss to many.

Our deepest sympathy and condolences to Rita and the family.

I loved knowing and working with Bob. His serving and caring heart was evident to all.
Bob's positive attitude about life and people encouragd others to be creative and
work hard while enjoying the ride. He was the best leader and boss. I am so blessed to have known him and his joyous nature. He truly made a difference in those who knew him.

My thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones.

Rita and family, my sympathies to you and your family. I worked with Bob at Innovative Services, he was one of my bosses and so easy to work with. He could walk into any room and make everyone smile no matter how bad the day was. No one can replace his smile, and he and your family have given so much to the community. Thanks to you all for sharing Bob with us.

To Rita and the entire family~ You are in our thoughts and prayers. What I remember most about Uncle Bob was his laugh, and his obvious love for his family. I know he is with my Pop (Dutch/Larry) now, and Frank, Jim, Jeannie and Woody - and there is certainly great laughter going on! Please take good care of each other now, and know you will all be together again.

I had the privilege of working with Bob at Freightliner and being a fellow parishioner when he attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. Bob was always friendly, courteous, and respectful to everyone he came in contact with. He was a good husband, father, relative and friend! My prayers are for the entire Gaylor Family.

Dear Aunt Rita..... My mom always said to us kids that Uncle Bob married the love of his life! You will forever be the love of his life. You and Uncle Bob were great models not only for your children but for your extended family and friends. I thank you both for that! Love- Shannon
