PATRICK ALLEN SHULAR
March 17, 1953 ~ July 30, 2015

Patrick Allen Shular was born in Vancouver, WA on March 17, 1953 to Harold and Martha Shular. A life-long resident of Vancouver, WA, he attended Lieser grade school, McLoughlin Jr. High, Hudson Bay High School, and Clark College.
Pat worked throughout the Pacific Northwest as Pat Shular Construction before working in commercial construction with Perlo/McCormack, and finally the last five years as a Senior Superintendent with Lanphere Construction and Development (LCD).
Pat was married to Brenda Shular (Hursh) for 33 years. He had three children, Benjamin Shular (wife Kelli) of Edgewood, IN, Babette Shular Terry (husband Jeff) of Vancouver, WA, and Nicholas Shular of Oak Harbor, WA. Pat was a regular spectator at his children's sporting events, often receiving lollipops from the other parents to keep his mouth pre-occupied. The passion in Pat's heart centered around his five grandchildren; Lindsay, Noah, Jordan, Jonah, and Judah. He enjoyed quality time with his grandkids and buying them things their parents wouldn't.
Pat took pride in his work ethic and being a provider for his family. He strived to be self-sufficient and able to fix or repair most anything. He enjoyed helping others, but only anonymously. Pat enjoyed cruising in his 55 Chevy, and supporting the Scottish Highland games.
Pat graduated to Heaven in the early morning hours of July 30th, 2015 after a battle with pancreatic cancer. He will be sorely missed by family, friends, and those who need things fixed.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sat., Aug. 15, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Vancouver First Church of God, 3300 NE 78th St., Vancouver WA. A reception will follow and all are welcome to attend and celebrate Pat's life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Clark College Foundation / student athletes - Pat Shular and Vancouver First Church of God / missions.

Brenda my heart truly breaks for you and your loss. I only met him once when the two of you came to visit me in Nampa, ID., and I really liked him and thoroughly enjoyed your visit. I'm sorry we didn't get together more but I thought about you often. I could tell you two were very happy then and stayed very happy. I feel so bad that we didn't stay in contact as we were very close as kids growing up together. You are and will be in my thoughts and prayers. Love and miss you. Deborah

Brenda, Nic, Ben, Babette and Family,

You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Pat was a wonderful man with a heart full of love for all of you. That humorously tough exterior tried so hard to hide his soft, teddy bear insides. Pat will live on through all of you and your pride in having shared your life with such a wonderful man.

Love and hugs to you from Mark and I

I worked with Pat building Village Baptist Church in 2009 for Perlo McCormack and really enjoyed hearing about Nick playing football at Cal Lutheran as we ate lunch together. Indeed Pat was a great craftsman but mostly I could tell that his family was the most important thing in his life. I can only imagine how much fun he must have had with his grandkids. May God continue to bless your family as you mourn the loss of husband, father and friend.

Brenda
You know our prayers are with you and the kids. They say "only the good die young". However, I wish you had time together to enjoy retirement and travel. We have lots of fun memories and think of Pat everytime we see a lollipop. Love you

Brenda, I am so sorry for your loss. In the short time since you and I have re-connected everything I've read about Pat says he was a remarkable family man with honor and integrity. It is my loss for not having the pleasure of meeting him. My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family.

Pat is really going to be missed around here. There wasn't anything he couldn't fix or anything he wouldn't speak his mind on. He loved the Lord, and he is where we all want to be now.

I am Pat's cousin, Janet Shular Schott, daughter of Clifford. The last time I remember seeing Pat was in the mid 60s. My father was a carpenter, a very good one, so I'm not at all surprised at Pat's career choice. I will not be able to attend his service as I have previous commitments, but my thoughts will be with his family. The three Shular brothers all died of cancer within a year or two of each other , my dad in Januay of 1982.
