November 18, 1930 ˜ June 22, 2019
Myriam ‘Mimi’ Burda, 88, passed away peacefully June 22nd, 2019 at her home in Vancouver, WA, surrounded by her children.
Mimi was born Nov. 18th, 1930 in the Bronx, NY. After graduating Summa Cum Laude with a BA in Elementary Education, she drove across the country to Portland, OR for a teaching position. There she met her husband Alfred and together they raised their family in Vancouver, WA. Mimi worked for 26 years as a library technician in Battle Ground School District libraries.
Her interests included reading, the arts, travel and spending time with family and friends. Throughout the years, she was involved in many organizations including AFS, an exchange student program, for which she received an appreciation award for 30 years of service.
She was extremely social, loved interacting with people and had a sincere respect for all. Mimi was truly a special person to her family and friends, she will be missed by all of us.
She is survived by 4 children, Beth, Jeff, Sue and Tami; and 4 grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred.
A graveside service was held June 26, 2019 at Jones Pioneer Cemetery, Portland, OR.
Charitable donations in her honor can be made to Clark County Food Bank, AFS or Jewish Family and Child Services.

Mimi was the first person to welcome me to BGHS when I arrived in 1980.She needed someone to reignite the AFS spark at the time, and so from there our friendship began. So many good memories of her:travelling together, from Amsterdam to Arnstadt on our way to Burt Babik's wedding, road weary and laughing uncontrollably, making hamantaschen in her kitchen(she always brought some to us at school) commiserating with her in the BGHS library, interviewing students and host families for AFS suitability, watching her sleep through the opera, serving her sandy clams at my house which she gamely and graciously tried to eat. We helped her with some yard work once and took out a small cedar tree that was too close to her house. That tree is now on our property and despite being sledded into many times by kids playing in the snow and ice, it stands, tall and thriving. Thanks Mimi for all the shared adventures, the laughter, the food, and the love. I know your family will miss you deeply. I am grateful to have shared some of your life with you. You lived a meaningful life that impacted so many other's. There are kids, now adults, all over the world who benefited from your interest, care and help. Dan joins me in expressing our deepest condolences to your family.

Mimi was always such a kind and special person. I worked with her at BGSD and in a Jewish community group many years ago. She was always a hard worker and warm and accepting person. My sympathies to her children and grandchildren and may they know that she touched many peoples lives.

My deepest sympathies to her children and grandchildren. Great memories of the days working together at BGHS. Her humor, her great chuckle, her passion for students, and her zest for life. Oh, and the GREAT rye bread she'd bring from her favorite bakery in town!!

So sorry to hear a Mimi's passing. I worked with her for several years at BGHS. We worked together on the AFS exchange days, always a lot of work but also a lot of fun. Mimi encouraged me to go out with another teacher at Maple Grove Middle school, she said she thought we would be a good match, well she was right, Rod and I have been together ever since. We both owe Mimi our gratitude. She was a wonderful lady. We are so sorry for your loss.
