MONETA ”NETA” MARY THORP
September 21, 1922 ˜ October 5, 2018

Moneta ”Neta” Mary Thorp, 96, of Longview, WA, passed away Oct. 5, 2018 and will be sorely missed. She was born September 21, 1922, to Bertha and Harry Bair and grew up on a farm in the Yakima Valley.
Neta was a member of Ashew Grange, where she met and later married her husband of 70 years, Jerald Thorp. In 1941, Neta and Jerry made their home in Seattle, where Jerry worked for Boeing during the war years, returning to Yakima to raise their family after the war ended.
In the summer of 1966, Neta and Jerry began a new adventure as owners of Sunrise Bowling Center in Vancouver, WA. Six years later, the Bowling Center was destroyed by a tornado, a very rare event for the region. Two years later, in 1974, the Center was rebuilt as Sunrise Lanes, which prospered under their ownership. Neta and Jerry moved to Longview, WA in 2006.
Neta was loving, fun to be around and feisty. Her joys in life centered around family and friends.
Post-retirement days found Neta and Jerry exploring the countryside in their motor home with their Trampers Club friends. In later years, she especially loved going to the family beach house on the Oregon Coast to watch for whales and listen to the ocean surf breaking on the cliffs below.
Neta is survived by a son, Jerry, Jr. and Kristen Thorp; a daughter, Pamela and David Eikrem; a daughter, Robin and Michael Packard; eight grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; a daughter, Joan Kathryn; and granddaughter, Wendy Kay.
Private burial will be at Terrace Heights Cemetery in Yakima, WA on Saturday, October 13th at 11:00 a.m.
