MICHAEL KENNARD LONERGAN

Michael Kennard Lonergan was born April 29, 1952 and died July 26, 2022 in Vancouver, WA. He was the third of five sons to Willis (Jerry) G. Lonergan, Jr. and Geraldine (Jerry) E. Burnham. Mike served in the United States Navy from 1971 to 1975 as a Boson’s Mate. He was a plank owner of the USS Wabash AOR-5. He made the ships maiden voyage around South America transiting the Strait of Magellan. After arriving in the ships new home port of Long Beach, CA, Mike participated in the shakedown and refresher training cruises before making a western Pacific Deployment, where he earned the Vietnam Service medal.
After his discharge from active duty, Mike worked as a rigger in a General Dynamics shipyard and became a Journeyman Plasterer in the Boston area for 15 years before returning to Vancouver. Mike spent 14 years in the Naval Reserve and was activated during Desert Shield/Desert Storm for an additional 6 months of active duty in the Middle East where he earned the Navy and Marine Overseas Service ribbon.
Mike is survived by wife, Vickie; his children, Lori, Matthew and Adam; stepdaughters, Shannon Edwards, Brigitte Forder and Valarie Caldwell; brothers, Tom (Julie) and Joe. He was preceded in passing by his father, mother and brothers Willis III and David.
Mike requested that his ashes be interred in Willamette National Cemetery with full military honors.
