Mary was born in Palmer, Nebraska to Roy and Francis Walling and moved to Vancouver, Washington during World War II where her father worked in the shipyards. The whole family made their way west in a Ford Model A and included one sister, Vivian, and four brothers, Bud, Jim, Gordon, and Monte. Mary went to Felida Elementary, Shumway Junior High and graduated from Fort Vancouver High School in 1951.
Mary was an usher at Kiggins theater and worked at many retail stores in Vancouver.
Mary married her childhood sweetheart, Pat Hart, and they had two sons, Jim and Mark Hart. Family was the center of Mary’s world - Jim’s wife Sue and Mark’s wife Kathy and grandchildren, Elaine, Craig, and Nicole and grandson-in-law, Daniel Schatz, Nicole’s husband. More recently, Mary loved to spend time with her great-granddaughters, Eyla and Frankie.
In the 60’s, Pat and Mary built and operated Pine Crest Golf Course and later partnered with Jim and Sue to build Hartwood Golf Course.
In retirement, Mary made beautiful stained glass works and still holds the family fishing record of a 40-pound salmon.
Mary was a wonderful person to everyone and will be missed by many.

I knew Mary as my best friend's grandmother. She always seemed happy and was ever-present in the moment enjoying the company of her family and the joy of the world. She was sweet and kind and the world is darker with her passing. Her love and her light live on through her family who are each an example of the effect a positive and loving rock like Mary can have on a life.

What a Beautiful, sweet, positive lady. Aunt Mary always had a smile and
a look that made you feel loved. The world is sadder place without her in it. All my Love to Pat, Jim, Sue, Mark, Kathy and all the kids.
