Marilynn got her Associate degree in Mental Health from Mt. Hood Community College and worked as Lead Victim Specialist for Clark County for almost 20 years.

Marilynn also was an active member of Vancouver Audubon Society. She served on the Audubon board for many years as Vice President and Volunteer Coordinator and enjoyed many birding trips with them across the US including Florida, Texas, and Cape May, New Jersey.
She loved nature and being outside counting the wildflowers, watching and identifying birds, and listening to birds, frogs, and other woodland creatures on her daily walks on one of the many nature trails around the Portland/Vancouver area.
Marilynn earned her Bachelor's degree at age 54. She was a continuous student and enjoyed learning about other cultures through her travels which included international trips to China, Egypt, Mexico, Turkey, Spain, Costa Rica, and most recently, Paris, France with her best friend from the 3rd grade!
Marilynn's warmth, generosity, and sense of humor will be missed by her many friends and family.
Marilynn is survived by her three children, Debra of Portland, Fred Jr. of Minnesota and Danette Nielsen; grandson, Justin Nielsen of Oregon City; granddaughters, Hannah and Sarah Hall-Dolezal of Portland; and two great- grandsons, Toby Messer and Justin Nielsen Jr.
She was preceded in death in 2015 by beloved granddaughter, Krista Nielsen.
A memorial service will be held on Tues., Feb. 28, 2017 at 2:00 at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Vancouver, 4505 E. 18th Street, Vancouver, Washington 98661.
