LONNY HEFFEL
July 5, 1963 ˜ August 21, 2022
Lonny Heffel, 59, passed away surrounded by loved ones Aug. 21, 2022, at Legacy Hospital. Lonny was born in Port Hueneme, CA, on July 5, 1963, to Gerald and Shirley Heffel. He graduated from Monterey High School in 1981 and shortly thereafter Lonny enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
Lonny spent six years in the Navy as an electrical technician. He spent most of his time aboard a repair ship, the USS Hector (AR-7). During his enlistment he achieved the rank of 2nd Class Petty Officer (E5). While in the navy Lonny developed a fondness for traveling and experiencing exotic cuisine's, both passions were integral to Lonny’s character throughout the rest of his life. The Navy also instilled a stunning work ethic into Lonny, so much so, that his work ethic was noticeable to those who had even limited contact with him.
Upon leaving the Navy, Lonny entered the transportation field. Initially Lonny began his career picking orders in a Warehouse, he moved into several driving positions, and then was promoted to supervisory and management positions. He was well versed in regulations surrounding warehousing and transportation, as he had spent decades in the industry. Ultimately, his career ended at Castle Tire in Portland, OR, as the Safety and Compliance Officer. His gruff, no-nonsense attitude may have been abrasive to some; however, he was beloved by many of his peers and coworkers not for simply getting the job done, but on a personal level.
Lonny also spent much of his time devoted to St. John’s Lutheran Church near Salmon Creek. Lonny would frequently volunteer at the church whenever events were being hosted. Lonny’s passion for cooking was well utilized at his church, he would prepare massive banquets and feasts for hundreds of congregation members whenever the church hosted events.
Lonny is survived by his mother, Shirley Heffel; his son, Gerald Heffel II; his two sisters, Anita Wilson and Yvonne Boyd; and brother-in-law, Rick Boyd. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerald Heffel; his wife, Irina Heffel; and brother-in-law, Rick Wilson
A service will be hosted to celebrate Lonny’s life on Oct. 15 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church or your favorite charity organization.
