Leonard Gene Suhr, age 79, passed away on Sunday, January 27th, 2013.
Gene Suhr was born on January 26th, 1934 in Belmont, Wisconsin, and was the son of Leonard Suhr and Gertrude (Gerlach) Suhr. Gene was the second of three children, older brother James Suhr and younger sister Jeanette (Suhr) Wedge.
Gene graduated University of Kansas in 1956 with a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering and two years later received his Masters degree in Environmental Engineering from Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
In September, 1961, Gene was married to Barbara (Basgall) Suhr of Topeka, Kansas. Together they have two sons - Stephen and Christopher.
In May of 1963, Gene accepted a position as a professional engineer with Cornell, Howland, Hayes and Merryfield in Corvallis, Oregon. He remained with the firm (known today as CH2M-Hill) until his retirement in March, 1996.
Gene is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara "Babs" Suhr; and his sons, Stephen of Las Vegas, Nevada and Christopher of Portland, Oregon; sister, Jeanette Wedge of Leesburg, Florida; granddaughter, Stacy Markezic of North Las Vegas, Nevada; and his great-grandchildren, Ryder and Mila Bella.
Services will be held at St. John's the Evangelist Catholic Church in Vancouver, Washington on Wednesday, February 6th at 10:30 a.m.
