JOSEPH "JOE" WILLIAM VARGA
January 16, 1945 ~ April 21, 2016
Joseph William Varga, 71, of Vancouver, WA, passed away at home on April 21, 2016.
He was the beloved uncle of Elizabeth Varga Stanton of Teaneck, NJ, Edward A.V. Sage of Portland, OR, and Andrew R. Varga of Milford, CT, and their spouses, Kevin P. Stanton, Katherine J.H. Sage, and Sheila Q. Varga. He was the loving great uncle of Oliver E. Sage, Lillian K. Sage, and Holly E. Stanton. He was a lifelong bachelor who left a trail of broken hearts and is also survived by 2 ex-wives.
Born and raised in Camden, NJ, Joe was the son of the late Anthony Edward and Elizabeth Rose Bytheway Varga and stepson of the late Elizabeth Anne van Horne Varga. He was predeceased by his older brother, Edward Anthony Varga of Marshalls Creek, PA.
Joe attended Camden High School and graduated from Lehigh University, Bethlehem, PA, in 1967, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in physics, and then earned a master's degree from the University of Oregon, in Eugene. He had a long career of 32 years with Litton Industries, specializing in gyroscopes, and retired young in 2000 to enjoy life.
Joe traveled extensively nationally and worldwide, throughout his life, making many lifelong friends. He lived and worked abroad for times, including in Australia, and settled in California and then Utah, before retiring back in California and then moving to Washington to be near his nephew's family.
Joe enjoyed the company of his family and many friends, travel, bridge, camping, bicycling, music, philosophy, and conversation. He was an active member of the Vancouver Bridge Club.
