JACQUELINE "JACKIE" MAE CHISUM DECHANT
February 5, 1921 ~ June 4, 2011
Jacqueline Mae Chisum Dechant passed away after a short illness on June 4, 2011 in Vancouver, WA. She was born in Sharon Springs, KS on Feb. 5, 1921 to Jack and Pearl Whitsell Chisum. She graduated from Sharon Springs High School in 1938 where she was active in several sports, including basketball and horse riding.
Jackie married Cyril F. Dechant on Oct. 19, 1938 in Goodland, KS. They had four children while living in several states, including Kansas, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington, while Cyril worked on power line construction in rural areas. The family moved to Portland, OR in 1953 and then to Vancouver, WA in 1962.
Jackie was a woman who loved her family and was proud of each member's accomplishments.
She enjoyed relating stories of her childhood and early married life. Jackie's favorite hobby was bowling which she participated in for almost 50 years. Her trophies and plaques are a testimony of her skills and fierce competitive spirit. She continued to bowl until the last month of her life. Jackie also enjoyed horseback riding, completing crossword puzzles, and watching baseball and golf on TV.
Jackie's survivors include: son, David Clark Dechant (Mary), McAlpin, FL; daughters, Kiplee Paige Luthe (Ken), Wikieup, AZ and Gaylen Chisum Sage (Bob), Vancouver, WA; grandchildren: David Jerome Dechant (Tavia), Portland, OR, Holly Anderson-Caldwell (Mike), Anchorage, AK, and Britt Anderson (Lea), Vancouver, WA; great-grandchildren: Walker, Parker, and Chandler Dechant, Portland, OR, Seth and Gavin Caldwell, Anchorage, AK, Morgan and Reese Anderson, Vancouver, WA.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Pearl Chisum; her husband, Cyril; son, Kern; brothers, Richard, Cayle, and Mark Chisum; sisters, Enid Chisum, Lucille Huffman, and Coye Hinerman.
Private graveside services will be held at St. John's Cemetery.
Donations in lieu of flowers to SW Washington Humane Society, 925 NE 192nd Ave., Vancouver, WA 98684.
Davies Cremation and Burial Services is in charge of arrangements.

Jacqueline was a special lady. I am sure she will be loved and missed by many. I know we will miss her smile and ability to keep us on our toes with each visit. Please know that our hearts and prayers are with you all at this time.
