HERBERT RICHARD GILES
November 13, 1926 ~ January 19, 2011
Herbert Richard Giles passed away on January 19, 2011 at his residence in Portland, Oregon. Herb was born on November 13, 1926 to parents Herbert W. and Helen Giles.
After graduating from high school Herb enlisted in the Navy and honorably served his country during World War II.
Soon after being discharged from the service he married the love of his life, Doris Lorraine Stewardson on March 27, 1948. Compassionate and devoted to Doris, Herbert held endearing, traditional values about marriage and family life. He took the responsibility of marriage to heart, giving it his total commitment. It was extremely hard for him when Doris passed away in May 2003.
Herbert greatly enjoyed what he did for a living. He was a hard worker who expected the same in return from his co-workers who all loved and respected him . He worked primarily as an Assistant Vice President for First Interstate Bank of Oregon.
Commitment is a key word that can be used to describe
the life of Herbert Richard Giles. He was committed to living
the life of a good man who was both practical and trustworthy. He was committed to the traditional values that he upheld
his entire life. He committed himself to being a hard worker
who expected the same effort in return from those around him. Most of all, he was committed to those he knew and loved.
Herb leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Trish Walters (Doug), Marcia Green (Randy) and Mark Giles (James); grandchildren, Kristin Green, Dan Green, Emily Walters and Natalie Walters; brother, Dale Giles (Nancy); a sister, Nancy Anderson (Bob); and a host of extended family and friends.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 27, 2010 at Vancouver Funeral Chapel in Vancouver, Washington. Herbert will be laid to rest in Willamette National Cemetery with military honors.

Herb was very friendly and obviously extremely fond of his family. When Doug, our oldest child married Trish, he and Doris warmly welcomed him and us into their family unit and we spent many occasions together commenting on the talents and beauty of our mutual grandchildren. He shall be missed.

I had a wonderful working relationship with Herb. Sometimes rewriting portions of the "SPM" was necessary and his help was so welcomed. He had such a calm manner and made you feel valuable.
