October 28, 1925 ˜ March 11, 2021

Helen Lois Herzberg was called home to our Lord March 11, 2021. She died peacefully at Avamere Rehabilitation of Cascade Park in Vancouver, WA, following an accidental fall at home.
Helen was born in Los Angeles, CA, Oct. 28, 1925, to George and Vera Shafer, and lived most of her life in California. She moved to Vancouver in 1995 to be near her daughter, and lived in Vancouver until her death.
Helen married the love of her life, Joe Irving Allison, on Sept. 24, 1944, and had two children, Joe Irving and Susan Lois. Her husband, Joe, was killed in an automobile accident Feb. 29, 1964. Helen entered the workforce after being widowed, and she worked as a telephone operator until her retirement. She enjoyed her job, having received many accommodations throughout the years. She played the role of both mother and father, with her great love for her family always shining through.
Helen loved the Oregon and Washington coasts, and traveled there for yearly vacations, many times with a dear friend from New Heights Baptist Church in Vancouver where she was also a member. She loved attending church, especially Young at Heart events, they truly did help keep her young at heart. She was an avid reader, lover of flowers and gardening, she enjoyed puzzles, and had many cats she loved through the years.
Helen is survived by her son, Joe (Libby) Allison of Gladstone, OR; daughter, Susan (Michael) Grimm of Battle Ground, WA; grandsons, Mark (Jenn) Monteverdi of Portland, OR, and Alan (Stephanie) Monteverdi of Ridgefield, WA; great-grandchildren, Millie Monteverdi and Selena Monteverdi; daughter-in-law, Berit Allison, of Oslo, Norway; grandchildren, Ellen (Roger) Stoa and Kevin (Vibeke) Allison; and six great grandchildren, all of Oslo, Norway. Helen was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Richard Shafer; sister-in-law, Annabelle Shafer; and niece, Cathy Vera Shafer; and two stepchildren, Asa Allison and Annabelle Kuhnke.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. March 19, 2021, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Vancouver.
