HAZEL C. COX
August 6, 1930 ˜ January 7, 2019

Hazel Catherine Cox was born in Gerber, CA, the daughter of the late Ray Gulinger and Helen (Lamb) Gulinger. She was raised and received her education in the Gerber community, having been a graduate of the Red Bluff High School Class of 1948. Upon her high graduation, Hazel attended Kaiser Permanente Hospital School of Nursing for three years in Oakland, CA, and received her Diploma in Nursing.
Hazel served as a surgical nurse for ten years at the Providence Hospital, Salem General Hospital and Medical Centers in East Bay, CA and Dragerton, UT. In 1961, she became a full time-time homemaker and mom.
She was united in marriage to Lawrence E. ”Larry” Cox on September 8, 1956 in Orland, CA. They celebrated their 62nd Wedding Anniversary this past September. Following their marriage they resided in Portland, OR and later moved to Salem, OR where Lawrence completed his schooling. In 2002 they moved to Vancouver, WA, where they resided for fourteen years, until 2016, when they moved to the Jennings McCall Retirement Community in Forest Grove, OR.
She was a member of the American Sewing Guild and enjoyed sewing and quilting. Hazel volunteered at the William Temple House and for the American Cancer Society.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents and her two brothers, Ray Gulinger and Glen Gulinger.
Survivors include her husband, Larry Cox; her three sons and daughter-in-law, Steven and Julie Cox, San Francisco, CA; David Cox, Waterbury, CT; and Robinson Cox, Chesapeake, VA and her sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Donald Heffner, Red Bluff, CA. Also surviving are her five grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held, Tuesday, January 15, 2019, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fuiten, Rose and Hoyt Funeral Home, 2308 Pacific Ave, Forest Grove, OR, with the Reverend Richard Osburn, retired minister, officiating. Private interment will follow at the Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland, OR. Family and friends are invited to attend a reception immediately following the ceremony, in the fellowship room at the funeral home.
