Gaylen W. Gano, 87, passed away Aug. 2, 2017 at the Ray Hickey Hospice House in Vancouver, WA with his wife by his side. He was born in Union Township, Woodbury County, IA on July 20, 1930 to Melvin and Ella Gano.
At the age of 17, Gaylen enlisted in the Army Air Corp. He spent time in Alaska working as a hydraulics specialist on aircraft. In Oct. 1954, Gaylen married his first wife, Elaine Riley. They were married for 27 years and had 2 daughters. In 1962, the family moved to Washington. Gaylen worked for Alcoa Aluminum for 27 years before retiring in 1986.
Gaylen loved to fish and spent many hours fishing at Lake Merwin and in the Columbia River. He also enjoyed bowling, hunting, going to casinos and reading. He liked traveling to warm, sunny places like Cabo San Lucas and Hawaii.
Gaylen is survived by his wife of 31 years, Carol; daughters, Terri Gates (Wesley) of Portland, OR and Mary Conrad of Blair, NE; four grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers; 6 sisters; numerous nieces and nephews; and Sweet Pea, the family dog.
He was preceded in death by his first wife; parents; 2 sisters; and 1 brother.
Visitation is Fri., Aug. 11, from 12-9 p.m. A service will be held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens on Sat., Aug. 12 at 12:30 p.m. with a reception to follow.
