Gary Lee Hessel, 72, formerly of Vancouver, WA, passed away on April 11, 2011, at Valley Medical Center in Renton, WA after a long battle with his health. Gary spent April 10 doing what he loved, watching the final round of the Masters Golf Tournament with his wife Kay and their children. If he could have told us his last wishes we know that this would have been one of them.
Gary loved being outdoors hunting, fishing, and golfing, and spending time with his family and friends. He lived a good life and had a great witty sense of humor. Even throughout his last days he was able to make people laugh.
Gary was many things throughout his life; beginning as a young firefighter and construction worker with a growing family to a successfully retired entrepreneur who took great pride in his absolutely stunning yard and Koi pond. Even while successfully running his own business he found time to be a good husband, father, and friend.
Gary was someone who you could count on to be there
to cheer you up, lend a helping hand, or a listening ear.
To sum up his great ability to make every situation comical I would like everyone to know what he told his son Gordon when he was last admitted to the E.R. on the 9th of April; "So this is how you get a field trip!" This is how his friends and family will always remember him, making us laugh.
Gary is survived by his wife, Kay; children, Gordon, Debbie, Susie, Greg, Jeff, and Jenny; and his many grand and great-grandchildren.
Friends are invited to share memories, view photos and sign the family's on-line guest book at or
Arrangements by Flintofts Funeral Home.
